Again, note the alcohol connection.
I'm guessing there's a "Brandy" in your future. I will take an affirmative to mean "Absolut"ly.
Brandi was the name we gave a miniature poodle we had about three dogs ago. Good guess, though.

Lokeij(husky mix, pronounced Loki) was named by my husband 9 years ago. I did NOT want a Lokeij, as the previous canines I had met with this name were a$$holes. But my husband got his way. Suffice to say, he turned out as his name suggested he would. LOL.
Coija (pronounced Coi-ya) means Queen in Incan. I chose the name because it was unique and ladylike. Well I ended up with the highest drive Leonberger most people have ever met, who thinks she is the Queen. Wonder where she got that idea...
Ironhide was named by my son after his favorite transformer. I was on the waiting list for a very particular litter of working line GSD's, for a male. Of course, only females are born. Temperament and health were more important to me than sex or color, so I let the breeder know that as long as one of the females was going to suit my purpose (sport), that I would go ahead and take one. I let my son know about the change, he didn't care, she became Ironhide anyway.
Duke Nukem (chi/pom) is my husbands 5 lb hamster/squirrel thing...LOL. He got his name after my husbands favorite video game. It suits him though!
And finally Gladiator. He came to me at 4 months as Wales vom Lytle, or just Wales. So I kept his name at first because it really seemed to suit the goofy guy. Well I soon realized that he needed a more manly name if I had any hopes of turning him into the amazing sport dog I know he can be. So my training partner/mentor/friend suggested Gladiator. It suited him perfectly as a solid black male.

My first dog was Dante, full name Dante's Inferno because I was reading the book in college and thought it was a cool name for a Dobe. That is also where my kennel name, Dantero, came from.
With the current dogs, Cali is just short for Calice, and I picked that out from a name in her pedigree. Needed a C name, liked it, ... Her knickname is "Whoopa", I really don't know how to pronounce that but Whoo as in Whoo Who or the start of "hoop". There is usually a story about how I got from the call name to a funky knickname, but she's 13 now, I can't remember her story.
Mac was originally Jack in France, then Nack when he was imported, and I wanted to stick with something that sounded similar. He's big, and powerful, and kind of like a "Mac truck", plus I thought it would be fun to say "Mac Attack" on the field. No real knicknames, at least not for a forum that children can access :-)
Kita is short for Pakita, it was just one of a list of P names I picked for the pups in my P litter, wasn't ever supposed to be the final name since most people change them. But then I decided to keep her, and I liked the name, so I just shorted it since I have kind of a theme with the girls in her family, Cali, Kira, Kita and now I have a boy named Kilo. Her knickname is Keeter Keeter Pumpkin Eater. Started out as just Keeter, and then evolved from there.
Nexxus is short for Nexxus to E, which means Connection to E (Enzo, her grandfather). We call her Noodle, if you met her you would understand. Noodle also sometimes becomes Noodley, which then becomes Nudity LOL
Kilo was from a B litter, his registered name is WA Byte du Dantero, the WA stands for Woody Acres, the friend I co-bred the litter with.
Generally since I pick my dogs registered names their call names are worked right in, or are some sort of play on the registered name, but not always, like in Mac's case. Since he was purchased as an adult, he was already registered. But most of my dogs are from my own breedings, so I can name them whatever I want :-)

Daisy, was named by my grandmother. We were looking through the local animal shelters and she saw a cute, obviously purebred yearling yellow lab, named Daisy, that she really liked. Fortunately, we didn't come home with that Daisy (she was already adopted anyway), but the name stuck with Grandma, so Daisy was pretty much automatically tagged with it. Personally, I don't think it fits her very well; Daisy, in my mind, is for either a small or very active dog, but she's been Daisy for 12 years now and its too late to change. My parents call her Crazy Daisy; I mostly call her Fluffbutt.
For the super puppy, I went through a list of names I keep that I really like (but rarely end up using) and found "Woozle." Beetle and Ike were also in the intial running, but didn't last long. His parents are Fox in Socks and Black Sheep and since I have kids, I started thinking of children's stories. Working with that I came up with "Trespassers W" and "One of the fiercer animals" (Woozles, Wizzles, Heffalumps, Jagulars, and Kangas are the "fierce" animals in Winnie the Pooh). Ingrid broke my mental tie so now he's Psycht's One Of The Fiercer Animals. It totally fits him and I was really surprised how easily it came.
I've had several animals I just named whatever, just because I couldn't think of anything else and eventually we just had to call them something . Some of them stuck soon thereafter (Whiskers, Britte, Buddy, Jack ), some have never really seemed quite right (Jake, Kiwi, Soot...). Our cat's name is Shadow, but there were multiple good reasons for naming him that.

I hate haveing to find names.
My first dog was Mavrick, he came with the name. He was a lab/rott mix.
Then my bf got the job of nameing the next 2 dogs Raider a dobb/rott mix. My favorit dog ever but he past away way to soon at 11 months old.
Then he found Dexter my lazy dobb. Named after the tv show. He choosed him and he loves him. They both love long naps on sunday
Harley is a rescue, came with the name Charley Most people just call him "l'enerve" the hypper. He is crazy but I have so much fun with him.
Horses are not any easier for me (+/-20 over the years), much better to leave the task for someone else. Yet I never had 2 animals withthe same name. I may start to reuse names soon

I had a dog that had one eye, lost a leg to a car accident, neutered, torn ear, bad gas, and tripped over shoes. We called him "Lucky"

Poor Lucky.
That's cool how some names are based off of the reg name.
My Sport was ILP registered as a Flat Coated Retriever, her AKC name was "Mordor's Black Rider". I was going to UKC reg Logan (but didn't get his pedigree in time before UKC changed their rules). I was going to name him "Distant Early Warning" which was actually going to be Ali's name but she died.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

My daughter named Bella when she was 2- a spin on Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Hazard came with his name (and being a major fan of the original Duke Brothers, I decided to leave it) Pretty sure I'm terrible at naming things as whenever I bring a dog into the HS,if I have given it a name, it is instantly changed I have spent hours thinking up names for my future pup though and I think I may actually have a female name picked out, now onto a male name but I have a couple years to decide. I couldn't even decide on baby names- 2 out of 3 had "Baby VandeWeerd" written on their ID card for quite some time in the hospital

Sorry this is so long but I just love talking about my four leggers.
Delilah White Paw (Lylee in the ooggy woggy voice) -she who took Samson's strength by cutting his hair. Also I really like the Tom Jones “Delilah” and Plain White T's “Hey There Delilah”. The White Paw is in honor of the breeder's daughter who called her White Paw for the little white spot on her foot.

Halo (responds best when asked 'where’s the duck') was named when she came to me, I hated the name it seemed so corny but as the time passed it fit, she's so sweet and has survived a horrific near fatal accident on the farm. I'm so lucky to have my little pillow puppy.
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q582/Delilahwhitepaw/Halo.jpg
Lydia (Lydee when she’s gotten into something or rolled in turkey poo) She picked us we didn't pick her, daughter's rescue pup. Named by my daughter on the ride home from the pound and then took four months for DD to remember what she called her. DD likes to tell everyone Lydia is adopted just like her.
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q582/Delilahwhitepaw/LydiaHalo.jpg they both think they’re big dogs.
Ch Neben’s Solid Gold Solo call names Solo and Soolee, mostly Soolee. Owns my heart, which is now breaking that he's so old and frail, long good-byes are tough aren't they? Solo because he was my first litter, the only puppy in the litter and he was a solid gold color.
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q582/Delilahwhitepaw/Solo.jpg
Ch Neben’s Cozette call name Cozee. And cozy she is. Named for Cozette in “Les Miserables”
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q582/Delilahwhitepaw/Cozy.jpg
Ch Neben's Edythe Anne call name Eedah (Eedah Budah in mushy-mush voice). She's gone now but I had to include her because it's my most favorite name of all. When I was a kid I loved Lillian Tomlin's Edith Ann and One Ringy Dingy skits. I spelled Edith, Edythe in memory of a friend.
http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q582/Delilahwhitepaw/EdytheanneCody.jpg She’s the one sitting up.
Seems like a lot of dogs when I put it on paper like this but I'm certain I have room for a few more!
