I try to be very aware of my surroundings and not look like easy prey, I've even brought my dogs into rest stop bathrooms when I had to stop in the wee hours of the night, it might not stop someone but it will certainly give them pause
That is outstanding awareness and this alone will get you far...so to speak. Add a dog to help you be "aware" you have a solid defense where you present a hard target for the bad guys.

Bringing your big dog into the rest stop bathroom at night is something that I remember doing
when I was just a girl, driving alone across the country.
Jodi, that comment made me remember a time SO long ago it makes me feel 100 years old....

Even my old weim has saved me from a lot of trouble with her nasty stares. Of course, she would go bat crazy on anybody if they ever did touch me. But the eye contact is usually enough of a deterrent. Also, im pretty gnarly myself... :P
stay safe everybody! <3

I had a Wiemaraner some 40yrs ago. They could be deadly serious dogs. Mine went everywhere with me so he at least accepted people as being something to ignore.
A litter mate of his could never be approached by anyone he didn't know.
The smoky grey color and yellow eyes alone can keep folks away from them.

Crazy looking dogs huh?! haha
My girl has deep, DARKER eyes. Maybe a brownish, with golden tint? (i look at them now, they look gold to me tonight!)
I have seen them with alien like eyes, very bright yellow! Very unique looking breed!
My girl is a bit thicker and darker than the weims i have met.
Though i did see a nice breeder with weims that looked more like mine.
I tried to contact him but he told me off saying he only places his dogs to active hunting or working homes.
I didn't want another! Just wanted to ask why our dogs looked different than other weims i have met.
Do you like weims? Ever get another?

I am a gun owner, and I don't depend on my dog to protect me...
Best self protection is a hand gun, no doubt. A big mean looking dog is an excellent deterrent as is an unconcealed gun...though its possible that a criminal might try and sneak up and grab your gun, but they won't do that with a dog.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

I liked the one I had but he was given to me by my sister's MIL. Two pup litter. She kept the other male and gave me the other because she "wanted the family to stay close".

Some muggings happen to gun carriers, at least in this area. Criminals get the drop on a victim, and if the victim is carrying a gun, they steal that, too. It's even happened to at least one uniformed security guard that I heard about. I daresay that not many muggers target people walking their GSD or Malinois.
