That is great news Ariane. I meant to post something on your other thread but it sounds like you've got it under control and he's well on his way to recovery.
I just wanted to mention that I don't always carry booties with us but I do carry sandwich baggies. They're light and they don't last long but come in handy if you have to do a quick field dressing to get home.
The gauze bandage can be cut and tied low on the ankle to keep them on. On the occasions that I've had to use them for minor cuts, they didn't seem to bother the dogs at all. Maybe something you could use for a short walk with Dexter.
Wow! How did you train that?
LOL... a lot of SELF discipline.

We had our yard back filled this summer, joy of building a new house. Dexter seem to be the champion for finding stuff that should not be there. Harley gave up the injurie thing since the kevlar vest.

Didn't get to post yesterday, so here goes.
Took Bella and Mabel to a "Street Steady" class in downtown Portland (ME). Yeah, during Labor Day weekend. So, TONS of challenges. They both did great. Check out the Facebook Album here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152048183230387.900792.659925386&type=1
Came back and did some tug with the boys we left at home.
Today, in the am, we did some heeling with Mabel, Milo, and Bella. And Jax worked Sit, and Down.
Then in the afternoon, I did tug with everyone. I re-watched Michael Ellis's tug video (again). And had a breakthrough! Realized the dogs were splitting with the tug when I let go, because I was playing too vigorously. It made some of them more vigorous in their play, but they would bolt with the tug. And, Mabel just thought she wasn't gonna be able to "win", so she just gave up.
But once I fixed that "level" of play, it went MUCH better.
Jax is really coming along in his basic positioning. Now, just gotta start on duration.

Ugh. I clearly have no idea what I'm doing with technology. I'll see if my wife can bail me out, cause they're pretty cool pictures!

Tracking was much better this morning, and we managed to avoid the ants. Wind was blowing off and on, so there was a bit of tracking off to the side on the cross-wind leg, and a bit of speed on the upwind leg. She struggled on one turn, but worked it out.
Worked a long down. There was a couple of tanker trucks working for a contractor who parked in the field where we usually go off-leash. The drivers were standing near our yard, Sadie was off-leash, and I needed to hitch the boat for moving so I put her in a down. We've been working long downs in training, but not out in public.
She held her down until I got in the truck to pull the boat out of it's spot. I took her back to the same spot and downed her again, then got in the truck and moved it a few feet. I got out of the truck, released, and rewarded. This was a true, albeit small, accomplishment for Sadie.

Today wasn't much.
Everyone got a round of look, and a round of recall.
Yeah... That was basically it.
I mean, aside from their regular daily requirements, of course.
More than your average Joe, but still way less than I would like!

Sounds like everyone had a great day. I had a good day with the dogs. Was pretty busy this morning and not feeling well so we trained tonight. Tonight I worked on steps to holding a retrieve dumbbell. Bindi does not like to hold anything in her mouth except her pine cone and animals she likes to kill, birds, lizards, gophers. So, I am trying to work on that with her and also perfecting it with the other dogs Cody and Terra.
With Bindi: heeling, distance work hand signals, holding the dumbbell in her mouth for a short time, treat, hold, treat, hold. BIndi is creeping forward when I put her in wait at a distance and do hand signals for down, sit and stand. She takes about two steps at each position. I have to figure out how to stop that. Outside I guess I could tie her out to a tree and begin at the end of her leash. Inside, I am not sure what I will do. Other than that she did well. If she thinks she has done something wrong, she will go back to her original position and wait for me to tell her what to do. She is very concerned about making a mistake.
Cody- works with all his little might. Today went to vet for his b12, did very well, loved everyone, (all the girls, afraid of men) did well getting his shot, then we went to petsmart to pick up some stabliizer for my aquarium. He did well, but kept an eye out for men. Tonight we worked on taking the dumbbell in his mouth. He did well and was even pulling it a little toward himself. heel, hand signals, he did well. Cody love to work and never wants to end it. Then I worked with Terra. She doesn't get worked much, extremely high drive. She gets so excited she barks through all training, it is annoying. But when I say enough she stops for a few minutes. She did outstanding. I am teaching her to pick it up, and I dropped a plastic dish and then she picks it up. She gets it in her mouth. So, that was good. We did a little heeling, touch, down, sit, wait. (wait is hard for her since she is so intense) Terra is very smart and I think she will be awesome when she gets into more regular training. She is feeling much better and have not had any more issues with her blood this summer.
So, we had a great day!
