How did Harley do in his first agility class?
Today I took Cody to petsmart. Walked around feeding him treats when he become worried or concerned about men or other dogs. Though nervous he pranced around in heel position, and when we stopped he sat. Good for a little man who is afraid. Did well, we just did one and one half loops of the store and out we went. outside we had a big party!
When we got home, we worked on heel; sit, down, (hand signals), wait and recall. Then we got the box out and practiced "in". He did great! Worked on "place" command, he is moving into down right between my feet without being guided.
Bindi- heel, wait; hand signals for down, sit and stand. Did well. Some hesitation on the stand but I think it is the overflow from yesterday when we went blank on the hand signals at a distance. Worked on "mark" with her doing hand signals for down, sit, stand. She did not creep using the "mark" board for different positions.
Terra- played with the box. Terra offered different positions. she really loves this game.
That's it. sharon

I've been working daily on the same stuff, so I haven't been posting daily. We've been working on BH stuff, mostly the out-of-motion exercises, which, for the BH, are no longer required to be done in motion. This kinda caught me off-guard...Sadie's sit was solid and we were getting there with the down, but I was still having to pause to make sure she downed.
This new wrinkle allows me to stop, pause, or do it the old way (confirmed via email by our trial judge). However, when I started trying it from the stop, Sadie got confused. Combine that with her hormonal cycle, and she just wasn't sure what I expected. I'm tempted just to keep doing them out-of-motion, but I like pausing to make sure she downs. I have three weeks to decide; guess I'll let her decide which way will get us the points?
I do need to do some more work on the traffic test, but it's hard to evaluate her while in heat.
Tracking has taken a back seat while we've been doing finishing work, but she really loves it and had gotten used to tracking every morning. This morning I did a beginner track to keep her enthusiasm up. I've drawn some things from the Patterson book, but I've abandoned his three-track system in favor of our original system, and we've starting making progress again.
On a side note: Sadie really loves her bling! I ordered a fursaver from Leerburg for her trial, and it arrived yesterday. As soon as it tumbled out of the bag with a loud jangling sound, she elevated in drive and started the spinning thing, more or less insisting on a walk in her new "necklace", and boy was she struttin'. The look on her face when she presented herself for the collar change was precious!

Before heading out for agility with Harley I did some ob work with Dexter.
He was very on today, guess he smelled that something was up. Super focus for him, some speed (unknown for him) That was fun.
Agility, was a bit rusty for 1 minute or so. Missed the 2 first tunnel. (just ran by once and jumped over it once). Then he was is crazy self super engage and fast.
We work of front cross with a jump and 2 tunnels and back cross by themself. Then it was contact elements.
The coach ask how Harley is with them. I said good but nut on the teeter toter, like jump from the middle to the contact.
He did show off. and work on just the contact part. I have to work with him on my left side more on the contact elements.
Most dogs in the class are slow, like the handle can walk and wait for the dog to catch up. One is very lazy, one is not getting on the cat walk or teeter toter and one golden jump from a stand still only.
The BC like to crawl under jumps and is super soft but most dogs don't have much engagement. Harley is the dog with the most ob work and the less hours of agility.
I have already ask is competing was something I would like to do because my dog as it.
It was fun. The class was outside so lots of new smell for distractions and so many dogs walking all over the place.

Today was an unusual day. Bindi and Terra got in a fight. I had to separate them.
Terra didn't want Bindi sniffing where she was sniffing on the floor. She snapped at Bindi and that really got Bindi ticked!
Anyway, I took Cody to Petsmart again, and he was a heeling prancing little man. He entered the door and went right up to a man and sniffed and then sat as the guy gave him a treat. He took food from 3-4 people. One man entered the store, Cody barked but soon quieted down. He obeyed commands, which i usually do not do when I am socializing him. Just let him be without the pressure tp perform while nervous.
He did very well. Every time he did something, was brave, he ran to Jerry and jumped all around it was cute!
Bindi- didn't train her officially today. But with everything, getting brushed, going outside, going into her crate...I asked her to do things before entering her crate with hand signals. (sit down stand) She did well.
Terra- no training. Did play with her yesterday evening with the box and her offering behaviors. She does excellently. Very smart, quick, and precise!
Today was 107 outside. 100 on our covered patio, so we did not do much. Tomorrow morning hope to get bindi out early.

Weave training.
I have been thaught with the help of a ex pen and the chute but I suck at it.
I have found the 2 x 2. I get it so maybe Harley will understand if my the handler get the concept first. First session was very positive.
Also work on the back cross and front cross.
Dexter was in no mood for work or play today.

Wow! I know agility is very challenging!
Today I only worked on Cody. Took him to Petsmart did a walk through, he did very well. In fact, he would look up at people but everyone ignored him. He heeled and was very happy to go into the grooming door. We pranced right out and headed home. We worked on place, leave it, and some holding of the retrieving dumbbell.
Bindi- didn't officially train her, had some emergency issues to deal with. However, when ever she needed to go out, or was to be put into her crate, I ran through her hand signals. I wouldn't let her in her crate until she performed the positions.
That was it for me. Love my pups, and today, it was cooler!!!! 97!!!! so my hopes are it will continue to cool off and we can begin going outside for training. More room for heeling and Rally O courses. Sharon

Sooo excited! Just did a complete BH walk-thru (sans crowd and reporting, which we have proofed already), and our most dfficult part of the traffic test. Sadie nailed all of the OB, tho her focus in the fuss lagged a little in a couple of spots. Afterwards, I released her for a run and threw in some long-distance recalls.
On the way back to our house, I decided to tie her to our neighbor's fence and down her to practice part of the traffic test. I chose that spot because I needed another dog and her fence-fighting partner lives inside the fence. I walked past my yard, about 40 paces, and disappeared around the corner, listening for her collar to see if she broke. She didn't and we had a big party. Then I removed her leash and did one off-leash, and that was solid, too. Because she's nervous about being left, her ears were up, her eyes were sharp, and she stayed focused on me, or the spot where I disappeared, the whole time (much to the chagrin of her restrained-aggression-frustration sparring partner, who was doing his job very loudly).
I really think we'll be ready.

More 2 x 2 weave work. Harley is really getting it, most likely because I am not stress about marking and reward timing with the ex pen set up or he has to think some compare to the corridor set up where he just blast thru like a nut case.
He seem to get that he has to find the way in. I do some work just entering at different angles and direction and some with 2 set of 2 pole getting pretty close to 3 poles in a line. there i still a large gap between the 2 set of poles but it starts to look like something and I am not discourage and Harley is happy to try even after a mistake.
