Great beginnings!
I worked on Bindi being near strange large dogs. It was not my choice to work on this, took her to a new park. They use the baseball field as a dog park. I heard if the dogs are not in the baseball diamond, most of all the owners keep their dogs on a leash.
Well, as I arrived a woman pulled up in her car, she had two dogs, one little beagle mix and another huge labador mix. As she opened her door, her dogs flew out and ran right toward us. My friends were with me and one of my friends had her little girl. The large dog almost knocked her over as it tried to get to bindi, hair raised and coming right at her with its little buddy in tow. I moved bindi away from them, Bindi growled, I the the ladies dogs to go away. lady tells me how sorry she is. I basically ignore her because I am busy now keeping Bindi's attention on me and treating her. So it turned out to be a training opportunity while walking. We kept walking around for about an hour.
COdy- Took him back to petsmart. He is now expecting to greet people so he can get a treat. He goes right up to the person at the cash register and sits. He did well, pranced around in heel position. Was a little worried as a man passed us as we were at the check out counter, but got his attention and treated him. We had a party as we left the building. Have been doing hand signals for everything I ask of Bindi, going outside waiting at the door, in sit position, sometimes stand position.
Going into her crate, the same thing, waiting for her food the same thing.
Tomorrow we will work on more things with Bindi.
I was elated today- it was only in the 80's , so looking forward to working outside tomorrow morning.
All of you are doing great, keep up the great work. You inspire me.

3rd or 4th session of the 2 x 2 weave and we got a near straight line with a lot of drive even after some no reward marker, now that is fun. It was raining most of the day and cold we even got ice pellet, so lot of fetch during lessons break. Saturday is a full day of lessons and not much dog time. So the 5 min breaks with calm horses are used to let Harley run in a structured way. Dexter just don't get the fetch.
I have tryed the weave with Dex but once he get the reward he just lose interest. It is like all I can get is one or maybe two rep.

Nice training session this a.m. It was a little enlightening for me, and solid repetition for Sadie.
Tracking has taken a bit of a backseat since we've been doing finishing work on the OB. I'm trying to keep it up because Sadie likes it so much, and I want her to keep progressing. We did a short basic track. She was solid, and I was the one who had to pay attention to my setup. The wind was pretty gusty, so I had to mind how I laid my track. I also stayed up close and watched her very closely to make sure she stayed tight. Good practice for me.
Sadie was good in the OB routine. Today drove home something for me that has been an obstacle for us; Introducing an older dog, who had a different foundation previously, to competition OB has its' challenges. When I got her at 2.5 yo, I immediately set to improving her basic obedience, and she very quickly developed a reliable heel and solid positions. For a companion dog, it was all good, even if her heel was a little lose and her down was slow.
When we started Schutzhund training, I knew her OB would need to be crisper. I added new commands for heeling ("fuss") and down ("platz"), and I started working intensively on focus. Because of my background in markers, I figured no problem; I'll just be teaching something brand new, and she always picks up quickly. However, some of the looseness I had allowed before creeps into the new behaviors.
She still gets distracted when heeling, and her down is still hesitant. I don't even use the command "platz" on the field, because I don't want it to get compromised. When we practice inside with luring, she seems to understand that she needs to drop immediately. Once we go outside, though, she gets hesitant and distracted. I try to be patient and keep her focused, but I know at some point it starts to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher (wah wah waaaaaahhhh...).
So, today's walk-thru was solid, but there was a little wavering of focus on the "fuss", lagging in the fast pace off-leash, and of course the "down" was a little slow for me (I paused long enough to make sure she went down, which will be allowed in the trial). I keep telling myself that it's no big deal; that her OB is good enough for the BH, BUT I think she knows what I want and is capable of better.
Well, we still have three and a half weeks, so we will be going through it 15-20 more times. I don't want to change anything or push any harder at this point. I'm hoping that just the amount of repetitions will drive it home for her.

How about a super good treat outside --something to raise her interest level in being faster.

Still playing with the 2x2 weaves, we are getting closer to the real weave, still no frustrations and a very motivated dog.
tomorrow is our second agility class and I had a crazy week so I had to time to go work on our contact, but Harley is pretty good at them. We did the front and back cross and played with one single jump.

Today we worked on Cody- fear issues. We went to Petsmart and he was very happy to prance around. there were 3 young men working installing shelves and that made him a little nervous, but he quickly recovered. I am feeding him treats as we move around the store. I take him into the grooming area, have him sit and reward him. We leave and have a big party that he was brave. Today we walked down one side of the side walk about 3 store lengths. He noticed some weird people in a store window, they didn't move and didn't smell like humans. (the were manicans (not sure how to spell it). HE was very brave and wanted to go in and smell them. Since they were close to the door I allowed him to lean in and sniff them. Brave boy!
Took Bindi for a walk, went through Petsmart and had her sit and heel, and front, and finish in a strange place, she did well. Then we went for walk and she did just fine. We came home and I worked on engagement with her. Whenever she looks at my hand when I move to get a treat, I immediately drop my hand down next to my body- with no treat. I also worked on her keeping her focus on my eyes longer. She did well, but at the beginning she had a hard time not just moving her eyes to stare at my hand moving to the treat bag, or the location I have the treats. Will continue to work on her. One of her weak areas is that you show her something twice and she tries to anticipate what you will do next time. i have to continually mix things up. The good side of that is that she gets things really quickly.
Today Terra will go out for a walk and we will work on heel and socialization. She is not afraid of much, expect when someone comes toward her with their arm raised with something in it, she drops to the ground. But she is extremely smart and catches on quickly. Today is much cooler so I am able to take each dog out for a walk, one after breakfast, one after lunch, one after dinner. Great fun!

Sharon;
Sometimes when I read your posts, I get all excited and want to run out and adopt an armful of terriers. Then I think about it for a second and realize, nah, I'm good. Kudos to you for giving each one of them the individual attention they need!
Last evening, rather than walk through the BH routine again, I concentrated on getting focus with the "fuss" command, and polishing up the sit and down exercises. She sits and downs consistently, just not with the speed and determination I'd like to see (even with her highest value treats). I'll just keep building through repetition and keeping her upbeat.

Great to hear all you guys are doing with your dogs, so interesting.
Duane: Sometimes I wonder what I have done too. However, I am committed to doing my best for these dogs. And I really enjoy training. They are good little dogs who love to learn.
Today we only worked on the treadmill. (I wasn't feeling well) Terra still does not trust the moving of the treadmill. So, we are still just getting on and off on command, and staying on when the buzzer buzzes. I haven't worked much with her on that.
Bindi and Cody each stayed on the treadmill for 5 minutes. Bindi and I then went out in the back yard and played together. She loves it when I chase her. We did a couple of sit, down, stand commands and when she performed the behavior well, I threw her favorite toy-an old pine cone. We played this game for about 10 minutes.
Cody- didn't want to play. He ran and jumped on a table I have out in the back and laid down. So, we ran through our ghetto agility course. We jumped off the table, ran through the tunnel and went up and then down our dog walk. Then we heeled, practiced a couple of recalls and that was it.
TOnight after everyone was asleep, Bindi and I worked on the dogs new puzzle. This one you have to slide the piece of wood that hides the treat. She figured it out pretty well and went from using her nose to using her paw. Then we got out the box and we did the "around" command, and then I just let her offer behaviors on the box. She began scratching the corner of it. I want to teach her to wipe her feet. So this worked out well for me.
Dogs did well today. Cody is such a love, but also a little dennis the menace. (parson russell terrier, terrier mix.) He absolutely loves to train and gets so excited has good prey drive and great joy.
ALso, just wanted to share some (I hope) great news. I am on a rally o forum on line and a woman who lives about 30 minutes from me is involved in rally for about one year and has a club and training she goes to. I am hoping I can go and see what her club does and see if I want to bring bindi into it. I am excited about it.
Thanks for sharing what you are training your dogs in. I find it very interesting.

Today we did a 4 poles weave
We are still working on the rear cross. On the groung we are very good put a jump in the way we suck. I have traded the jump for a cone to go around.
The agility coach also said to put a name on the rear cross. They seem to name right at the beginning. So it goes this way with them. Name, lure, reward, then spend time fixing the mess.
I am just starting to think of giving the rear cross a name.
Dexter is working on his bounce. He seem to like the goofy stuff. But he does not seem to get that he has to do something to get the reward. So after the first reward it takes him some time to stop noseing me for food and give a try.
