Our plan is to learn to bring/differentiate between a ball, tug and frisbee. Right now she knows the "bring" command. However, she will only bring the one she wishes to play with. My goal is to place all three in front of her and have her bring the one I ask for.
The biggest hurdle will be finding a treat she values over her favorite tug and frisbee. Also, these toys throw her into high drive.
I'm thinking that a bark alert would fit if the alert was for something he had been taught to recognize.
So would your nosework if you named the goal and showed both pre-training and then final clip.
Maybe if you changed from food to another item in boxes and had him find it and then do a special alert? Then he wouldn't be partly trained already on it ....
Gonna go with a bark alert on the actual scent article.(Birch oil)
As of now he has no alert and only looks for food to eat.
With that it will be apparent that he at least knows to search the boxes on command.
The alert will be a down or bark when at the article. Not sure which as of right now.

Just a real quick note: no one plans training that involves leaving their dog in the neighborhood with no long-line backup.
Even with a goal of a command that would be used only in an emergency situation, any training in a neighborhood is (and always was) going to be done with a long line.
Just pointing this out to be clear to other readers who may not follow the board regularly and may have happened upon the thread.

A fun goal. I had to smile at her just so happy to be there.
Aren't dogs fantastic in that they are enthusiastic to do anything that involves spending time with and pleasing their humans! She makes me smile every day Such a fun loving spirit

Yup! Nothing (except the supper bowls) makes my dogs happier than "Ready to train?"
