Today didn't get much done. Did work with the Cody man tonight. Perfecting the "place" command and the heel. He is quite a nut, he loves to do everything very fast! He gets a big kick out of it. We practiced coming into heel position, sit, down, wait, come, and worked a little in the box. He offered some pretty cute behaviors.
Today drove down with all the dogs to the other training site, probably going to go there for training in rallyo with bindi. The other trainier who is supposed to get a rally o class started is not planning to do something until after the holidays, maybe. I really don't want to wait any more. So the dogs had a blast going for a ride in the car.
Been working on Bindi's fronts and finishes.
Sounds like you guys had a good time with your pups. Still love reading all about it. Agility seems fun, thought I know it is hard work, bet your dog loves it! Both of you, it would be cool to see a video of your pups.
Will train more tomorrow. sharon

Got some new pointers from the trainer at the Red Barn (where we did our competition last week) and Sasha's left pivot is getting much better. Still not where I want it but it's improving.
Also working on her response if I bump her on the left turns and 360 lefts. I have to keep reminding myself she is still a puppy regardless of how big she has gotten.
I too would love to see some agility videos your pups. I'm going to see if my sister will come and video us on Sunday. Not as exciting as agility but hey, it's still fun for us.

Today we did nosework in the barn.
I did the hide with the new smell, gave a lesson, then my bf send Harley to the barn for me. I think that he now knows that new target good indication but still having trouble with hides that are high off the ground (over 5feet) if there is no way he can climb up.
I can tell that he knows were it is he just have not figure out yet how to show me very clearly but getting there.

Took my girl down to an obedience trial last night just to get a feel for it, her first trial should be middle of December. She was reasonably well behaved considering she is sort of dog aggresive, she got wound up a couple of times but was able to settle her quickly and redirect her focus back to me just REALLY hoping no dog decides to eyeball her in the stay part of the trial as this sets her right off and the dogs we normally train with still don't do off leash stays so it's not much of a challenge for her.

Brad, "hoping" is a crap shoot at best. You have to actively train and proof for that.
It's no different then "hoping" your dog will retrieve a ball when you throw it if you've never trained for it.
One negative event at training or a trial will set you back horribly.
At a trial you wont be able to "settle her quickly and redirect her". At a formal trial you will be excused from the ring if an actual fight breaks out and probably have to jump through hoops to be allowed to trial her again.
Train and proof!

Thanks Bob I understand what you mean. She's great while she's working pays no attention to other dogs or anything else going on, it's more a case of when she's just sitting around and has time to get fixated on something, we were sitting around for about 2 hours with the other dogs walking by and doing things around her and it was only 3 times in that whole time she got stirred up when the dogs were staring at her. There's a bunch of ladies that usually train their dogs long before our classes start so am going to ask them if she can sit in while they do their stays, she has never broken a stay in a year except to lie down during a sit. Thanks for the advice I have a month so plan to put alot of work into this!

Today I worked with the Cody man on fear based issues. He woke up jumpy today, not sure why. But we went to Petsmart early and he did pretty well. When he sees another dog he immediately looks at me to get rewarded. So I am glad to see his attention is easily turned away from other dogs. We also heeled up and down the one side of the outdoor mall. He did very well. We came home from that and ran through some of his behaviors-mat, down, sit, wait, touch, spin, heel, place. He does very well. Stopped, used the flirt pole to play with him. Then we quit.
Terra- took her on walk, we heeled along as we went. She did vey well. Was a little excited and silly in the beginning, but I told her no and she quit right away. Did very well staying in heel position.
She is an extremely quick learner. She will be the next one, I think, I will be taking to training. Starting to make sure I work with her more regularly.
BIndi- nothing today, tomorrow we will walk, train and have a bath.
Enjoyed reading about your dogs and training. love sharon

Brad;
I proofed for the BH for a month, and practiced on the assigned day at the trial field with the other BH dogs. All of the dogs were off a bit the next morning. The temperature dropped fourty degrees overnight, the wind was howling, and they were all full of vinegar. One dog failed, and really could have been DQ'ed for out-of-control. You have no control over what you're faced with, so prepare as best you can for the worst.

Dumbbell work has progressed much faster than I anticipated. Once I worked the dowel a couple of times, she understood she had to hold it square and calm before I would mark. I put the dowel away and made her a dumbbell that is the same size as the OB1 but lighter.
She had struggled on the first attempt with a regulation dumbbell several nights ago, but she adjusted to this one right off. She took it and dropped it twice, but I gave her uh-uhs and she started holding it until I marked (quickly at first). We then did a couple of very short (3-5 ft) brrrings.
Five minutes later, she was getting calmer as she waited for the mark. She understands what is expected now, so we are ready to start practicing it. Once we get good at it, I'm gonna do a little opposition reflex work to solidify the hold and out.
