Barbara "ubiquitous"!! - quick LB literacy poll - how many people knew what that word meant, i admit i googled it - shame.
and there is no problem with CORRECT USE of an e-collar, the problem lies with the free availablity of such devices for people that don't even know any formal training methods at all, or worse those that have come staright from the rolled up newspaper to the e-collar. i don't think i am unreasonable just RRRRRRREEEEAAAAAALLLLLLLLY concerned based on knowledge of proven human nature.
Al to answer yours, Ed seems to use the word trainer as anyone who is training a dog at any level, eg even a first time dog owner etc ie everyone is a trainer in Ed's definiton (as i read him) so according Ed i am a trainer. my personal defintion is a formally trained qualified pro working full time in some aspect of the dog industry from which they draw their income either sport or service, so in my definition i am not a trainer.
i would call myself a student of positive reinforcement methods havin fun with a personal companion dog n drivin evryone else nuts. hope that answers your ?
So Peter,
You said that:
"the problem lies with the free availablity of such devices"
Are you suggesting that e-collars should be controlled by the government?
Between that statement and your other statement in which you said:
""its the same logic/argument as "guns don't kill people..." , - am I correct in believing that you do not live in the United States?
concerned based on knowledge of proven human nature.
Understandable. Hopefully, the info on ME's videos will at least ease your mind and give you a broader base on which to discuss the topic... especially the part about which correction had the least effect, chemically, on the dog.
I knew the meaning of ubiquitious but have had to look up words used by forum members before.
uh-oh Will is on to me again, this is me going into avoidance.
Will i got my first short barrel unedr n over shotgun off my pop when i was 10yo. i live in a rural area with possibly thousands of legal home re-loading set ups n as many rifles n guns so don't bother.
should gov regulate use of e-collar, never thought bout it till you said it, but it sounds like a good start if only to slow down sales untill some workable guidelines are put in place.
n i think you are a bit unfair drawing the parralells in the two arguments, i was referring to the mechanics of the logic in the argument not trying to put the two issues on equal footing.
i beleive you are trying to force a false debate, i won't be drawn on it, tahnks anyway.
Will, do you have an alarm going off every time people use word "gun" in their posts?
No, but the wording of some posts show a lack of "cultural" awareness to U.S. norms and customs - if someone is posting from a country ther than the U.S., I try to take that into account.
Makes sense?
