Sadie has been performing very well on the track we've repeated all week, so using the same step and bait pattern, I started her on some very heavily baited 90 degree turns over a relatively short track. She wasn't spot on, but I gave her all the time she needed; she worked them all out and didn't blow any. I think the best approach will be to work the familiar track regularly, and do right angles once a week.
More article intro in the kitchen. We make a game of it and she loves it (TREATS, TREATS, more TREATS!!!).

You need a treadmill Tresa. Teach him to stand on it and bark when he wants to run
I want one, too, David, but I KNOW I will get superstitious behavior, as my vets scale resembles one and I've seen the reaction.
Based on one of your earlier episodes, I know that your crew dealt with this issue. What ended up working for the spooky dogs?

Duane, this is meant in no offensive way, but your idea of superstitious behaviors from dogs really confuses me. If you don't allow it to happen, it won't. Some things you can't control, like ants biting a dog's nose, but you CAN recondition fairly easily and quickly, depending on the dog's personality and ability to handle stress and pressure.

And we have worked on the scale at the vet's office, by luring with treats and a gentle "hup" command. Are you saying that I should just throw her on a treadmill and that's her problem?
I thought asking someone who has figured out how to properly introduce a dog to one might help.
Explain to me how to get her in the tub easily, as I've tried everything I can think of.

Samantha, please remember that I adopted Sadie after much of the damage has been already done. I'm trying to correct how she accepts things, without causing her more stress than she already has.

I do need a treadmill...I'd love to have a carpet treadmill that the dog powers himself. I may try and build one eventually, it can't be that hard.
DuaNe I'll bet you could take the B.A.T. approach on her and it would work well, right David?
I have had several rescues and know what you mean about unknown past handling. Logan is not a fearful dog by nature....but he hates lawnmowers, very suspicious. He hates tillers and bikes too.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

Thanks, Tresa.
We don't have any serious overriding issues. It's just that I know my dog, and if I introduce new objects correctly, it creates a lot less tension and stress. The vet's scale is something I was behind the eight ball on, but we're working it out. She's reactive to dogs, but I figured out how to remove the stress, and we're making headway.
I equate the treadmill to an ecollar; I wouldn't just put one on her and zap her. There is a correct way to introduce it.

Some basic ob out in the great outdoor.
And tracking with Harley.I had a plan but we had more rain then I thought over night. So my track lead my into a huge lake so my option was to go in the lake, right in the thick blackberry bush or left in shrubs and rabbit holes.
I picked the shrubs and rabbit holes. Hard to walk in it but once Harley figure that the track was going that way that was easy. He could not figure it out right off. He was going in the good direction but stop at the wall of shrubs then he got it and went back to work. The rabbit holes he did not see.
What a good boy
