In terms of exercise for her, since she is 12.5 weeks old, is it ok to be playing fetch with her? She loves her tug more than anything and loves when I toss it for her to fetch. She is an extremely hyper dog, much more-so than her sister who my brother has. And she is much hyper than any other puppy I have had.

Dale, you might want to start a new thread for this post. Folks won't be looking for puppy-exercise questions here in a topic called "Bacterial Colitis."
Hey Connie, since for now peanut butter and cream cheese are out of the question for her diet, would it be acceptable to freeze some of her canned food into her kong and give that to her?

.... I have never put any peanut butter or cream cheese in my Kongs- it takes an amount that I wouldn´t eat in one meal so I would feel highly uncomfortable giving it to a dog
Great point!
I don't fill that hole with either one, but I do sometimes smear peanut butter around the inside of the hole -- using maybe 10% or less than what it would take to actually fill it. Then I freeze it.
I have also used THK mixed up a little thicker than usual and smeared that, too, and then frozen it.
If I had canned food around, I'd probably use that too. Maybe I will get some and surprise the dogs!
But as Michael points out, this dog is a special case, and the owner is wise in using extreme care with treats/snacks as well as mealtime food.

I used canned or even raw burger in the kong, frozen for about 48 hr til it's rock solid, you can use unthawed but the time frame of keeping my food crazed lab occupied with it goes down to about 30 minutes. Once she's finished with it I run the thing through our dishwasher and simply refill and freeze again. I normally about about 5 kongs ready to go in the freezer at a time.
Hi Dale--
I make "meatballs" for Cali's Kongs. I put a bunch of sweet potatoes in the microwave and nuke. I do between 5-8 potatoes depending on how ambitious I'm feeling. When they cool, I smoosh the taters with cooked salmon or boiled hamburger. I fill her three Kongs and freeze. With the rest, I roll into "meatballs," but oval-shaped and long so that I can just stick one in a Kong at a later date. I spray dinner plates with Pam, lay them out, and stick the whole mess in the freezer. They come off individually with a little prying, and I store them in plastic bags to use frozen, or defrost as needed.
If I'm feeling ambitious, I cook up some rice too and add it to the mixture.
I did this because of Cali's poop issues, and I knew none of food above irritated her. Now that she seems very much resolved on this issue, I use can food (limited ingredients) now and then when I don't have time to go all gourmet in making her Kong treats!
