I just picked up a dog from the Humane Society in Florence Oregon. He's my first real rescue. I called them today to ask about a Thyroid check because I suspect an issue. They told me that his records indicate that he is a monorchid and the vet didn't take it out because he could not find it. This dog has some aggression issues and I was wondering about if anyone knows if this can cause behavior issues. The dog is about 3 years old, but they aren't sure. Any one have any input?
Jamie, is the dog monorchid and cryptorchid? Assuming yes, there still isn't a good reason why a vet can't neuter him, it may take a bit of poking around to find it, but if he truly is cryptorchid, that's all the more reason to have the surgery.
And yes, an ill-functioning thyroid can affect temperament, if he's overweight, thick in the neck, sluggish, I'd have him tested.
Humane Societies often have to use whatever vet will give them a discount or do it cheapest. If you find a better vet they might be able to find the remaining one.
