I live in SOUTHERN canada, and I really hate wind. I bundle up too but nothing can cover my eyeballs, and I hate when my eyelashes freeze together (hasn't happened in a while, though.)
Anyway, I kind of almost feel BAD for walking my male Catahoula hound, who is single-coated; but he doesn't even seem to notice the cold!
And then there are the dogs who break through the layer of ice to lie in puddles in sub-freezing temperatures.
Heather don't say that! They'll think we all live in igloos up here!
Okay okay, I'm sorry. I don't live in an igloo, I live in a basement apartment, in Toronto. The least igloo-like housing situation possible. I guess I'm not that far north, but I can't help but smile when people think below zero at night is cold weather.
Okay,
Another Texan here but when it is cold in our area it is a wet bitter type of cold lots of humity and does not matter what you wear it is still cold. Get your coat out put on layers do what ever it takes but take them out for thier walks, it was 35 here this past weekend and I was out and to me anything below 75 is down right cold... :-).
Max on the other hand was in 7th heaven so like the Nike commerical says:
"Just Do IT"

Well, it looks like the record warm winter in the northeast USA is behind us! It's single digits right now with double digits below zero factoring in the wind chill.
There was a bunch of great advice in this thread about how well the human should bundle up, but how about the dogs? I have a 1-year old male Doberman. Is bringing out him for exercise in this weather without a dog coat fine? If so, at what temp should I be putting some layers on him?
Ditto. My first Winter Pup! BRRR. Potty Training was especially rough! Especially in the Freezing Rain. He didn't want to get wet. What a Hoot! (After the fact, anyway).
I have a Small Yard but a BIG house. We play in the house, usually in the Kitchen, but sometimes in the living room. Of course our pup is only 14 wks old and about 25 lbs, so there is still room enough for him to run inside.
We also have a tie up in the yard. When it is Sunny Out I put him out for short periods of time with his Milk Jugs. He is good at self-play as long as I am watching him, although sometimes I sneak off and do the dishes or the laundry and just check on him periodically. The Milk Jugs are kind of loud and he gets really barky with them, so I decided that they should be an outside toy.
There is nothing for him to get tangled up on, but I did have to shorten up the tie up to keep him from getting under the shed and eating the cat poop!
