I am interested in getting my two GS on B.A.R.F. diet. I have read a little about it. I am just wondering what types of food to feed them and where do most people get these foods. I live in south florida so if anyone is using this diet and lives down here any help would be great.
I saw ed's article and that was a good beginning, but if someone can point me to some other info to help me get started, i would appreciate it.
Well, I get mine from one of the bigger lockers. Lots of times I can get the offal from the smaller locker in town here for free. Also, this is farm country and when people get their animals butchered, they give me heart, liver, exc and sometimes since they need room in their freezer, they also give me the older meat they have in there. You really have to ask around though. It was not very easy to find at first. I got on a group for people who feed BARF in my state and found out where to get what at the best prices that way. It might be a good idea for you to do the same. Makes things a little easier.
Chicken necks, backs and wings are the best for RMB's. I feed necks and backs since they are much cheaper. For muscle meat, I alternate between beef, venison and pork heart, hamburger, fish. Organ is mostly liver, alternated between chicken, beef, pork and venison. I also feed lots of eggs (shell too), cottage cheese, and leftovers from our dinner table (this is mostly filler for the dog, but my dog tends to be on the skinny side). Some people feed veggies and tripe and a whole list of other things too. I don't feed veggies anymore and so far can't find raw tripe around here.
