Does anyone have a short video they would like to share or a link to a video of a handler giving directions and canine going through directions? Prefer the diamond test pattern if you have it (FEMA standards). Please PM me if you prefer. Thanks
Sandra:
Here's a video I found on youtube. This is what it generally should look like (without the command to sit at the end before the dog returns to the handler). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSJP3n5Y1mE
I am VERY particular about the method in which the dogs on my state USAR team are trained for this. It is an exercise that should be trained and performed in drive. The method I use is quick and it produces a dog that performs the pattern in drive and is easily transferrable to directing a dog while searching (which is the point, after all). If you want information on the method I use, just PM me and I'll write it up for you.
Thanks to all who PM'd me requesting more information! Wow, I didn't know training for FEMA-style directionals would be so popular! I'll take some time today to write up my method and send it to y'all as soon as I can.
