When dogs shake (and they are not wet or don't have an ear infection) it can also be a 'calming signal'.
Dogs do this to calm themselves and others around them, I see it a lot when my dogs have just been excited about something like me getting ready to take them out, or preparing their food or after a wrestling match with each other that gets a little intense. They do sometimes add the 'fake sneeze' too. (especially the Corgi)

In the SAR world....when my dogs shake off while working it tells me that there is "something different" going on with the scenario.
Almost like they are shaking off the info they have already gathered in order to process more "information" and move forward with the task they are asked to complete.
My Hound does it on sharp corners and in contamination if it is heavy.
The Dutchie does it when he first enters really HOT scent, and Jesea does it when she has run into some dead animal or other scent source that is not cadaver.
So, while I agree with Cindy, I also believe that when working, this is a body language that needs to be watched to see if it follows a pattern.
Until The Tale of the Lioness is told, the Story will Always Glorfy the Hunter

This must be it. Upon greeting if he is excited, I get lots of fake sneezing too (no sneezing with the other times he head shakes though).
Upon reflection I do get some head shaking when preparing meals occasionally as well. Just that the lip smacking trumps the head shaking most of the time
