But 4 days for a puppy is usually going to be between 12 and 16 meals. Unless you are feeding 2 meals a day and it would only be 8.
If the dog does well from the first meal then you could add a little something new the next meal and so on.
Slow and in small increments is as individual as the dog.
Turbo was fine with the first few foods i tried with him, and then I went full on with variety. Domino on the other hand was a SLOW switch. You DID NOT get creative with her diet.
You can't go wrong with introducing the diet slow. And after a few meals, it become more obvious what pace is needed for each dogs switch.
Got it. So if the dog is eating 3 - 4 x daily you can (assuming poops are okay) add things a bit more quickly than you would with an adult dog eating only 2 x per day?

If poops are OK, then progressing with the diet is fine.
4 days IS fast for a ton of variety, but if you are there with that individual dog and things are going fine then I don't see why not move forward.
If I was giving chicken backs with all the skin removed and the following poop was dry and crumbly, it is reasonable to assume that I can leave some fat on.
Next poop is good, so maybe an ounce or 2 of ground turkey.
Next poop is a *little soft*, so I'll back up and try an ounce of ground turkey.
A progression like that. Only moving as fast as the dogs gut tells me I can.
Readers: None of those amounts mean anything. Just examples.
Newbies. Don't read this as saying it is OK to empty the freezer out in the backyard and let Fido go to town.
I admit, i think I started to fast.. But his poop is still pretty normal looking.. It was a little soft this am so I am cutting back the ground meat. My breeder had him on a raw/kibble mix.. Not sure why.. I am keeping a journal of what he eats weights etc.. And day 1 I only feed him ground (yep I know now that is not a great idea), Day 2 I feed him ground and chicken wings (yep I know chicken wings are not a great idea now) and day 3 his poop was normal) Added some muscle meat and his poop even looked better on day 4 and 5 (today).. So I go to the store tonight for round two.
