I use Epi-Pet sun protector spray for my two hairless dogs and so far so good. I got it on Amazon. I did not want to use human sunscreen because I have to cover their entire bodies so when they lick themselves it's a lot of sunscreen in their belly. It might be fine but I just did not want to take chances.
Anne J made a good note on raw & high end kibbles- I just have a little addition to make to the kibble conversation. I do not feed raw, I feed kibble, and a general rule of thumb I use, and tell everyone who adopts a dog from the rescue I work at is if you can buy it at a 'commercial' pet store (petco, petsmart, or of course ANY grocery store) it's NOT quality food. Grains are impossibly hard for dogs to digest and a high trigger for allergies. BG (Before Grain) by Merrick, Canidae grain free, Wellness CORE, and many other kibbles make a high protein grain free (low carb) food. If you find the right kibble for your dog, you'll see results similar to feeding raw- reduced feed intake, reduced waste (because they can actually DIGEST everything you feed!), and less smelly waste, beautiful coats, and less health problems in the long run.
(side note, personally I'd avoid all Natura products, they were recently bought out by proctor and gamble, ya never know if the quality will change, and when)
Good luck! Dog food shopping can be challenging, but try to find a quality pet store in your area and get to know the owner, or canine nutritionist if they have one.
I thought I'd bump this rather than starting a new thread. I took my bitch to the vet for a terribly snotty nose, not runny, but goopy. She was nursing 4 week old pups at the time so the vet did a full blood panel to determine if the infection was systemic. At the time, only her ATL and Eosinophil levels were elevated. ATL at 195 and Eosinophils at 21 (normal range 2-10). The vet asked to recheck in 4 weeks. When we ran her blood work again, ATL had gone up to 359 and Eos were still at 21. In addition her BUN had gone up to 34 (normal range 7-27).
Other than these weird numbers, she is eating fine, and is as active as ever. All previous blood work has shown normal levels...
The vet is running additional tests and I don't have those results yet, but I was wondering what tests I should ask for (if the new ones aren't "enough")?
