I have a 5 month old bulldog puppy (he is a working line German import) and have been at a sch club for about a month with him now.
The first few weeks he was awesome, nailed everything, he is really picking up the tracking, OB and he was a nut for the flirt pole, very intense and relentless (very comparable to the other herding puppies in the club)
The past few weeks we have had trouble with his level of distraction while on the flirt, he will chase it very intensely and then just kind of run off if something catches his eye or nose (usually a big pile of horse crap lol).
My trainer suggested that I should build his stamina, that his prey drive is there because when he does chase he is intense, but that he was very curious and we needed to build up his stamina. As well as stopping any formal OB training with him at home, only playing with him and getting him interested in toys ect. But he has the same level of distraction at home was well.
He is no GSD that's for sure but he has a good nerve base and is a very confident puppy, so I think if we can nip this in the butt he will do well in the sport.
