As bad or even worse to me than the warrantless entry, was also allowing a private organization on her property as well (the "House Rabbit" people). I can just imagine if PETA showed up on our place and found the dog training equipment shed! "Look at all those evil prongs and sleeves and a bite suit! These people are obviously crazed killers and animal abusers! Let's grab all the dogs and kill them cause they've obviously been horribly abused and trained to be vicious!"
Agreed. PETA would say the same at my house. Prongs,e-collars, backpacks and drafting harnesses abound. The sickening thing is it's getting to be that animal cruelty is whatever the animal control officier or rescue group wants it to be, not what the law declares it to be.
These stories really scare me. The lack of first hand knowledge of the animals they "save" is astounding. In all this talk about PETA, let's not forget to mention the Humane Society of the United States, who participates in illegal raids and dumps dogs in high-kill shelters after aquiring them. The HSUS is just a form of PETA in suits.
One of the things that I noticed here was that this happened in Colorado, a State that is becoming more of a "Nanny State" with each passing year.
I can just imagine what would happen if this took place in California, that poor woman would have been placed in stocks, or something....
I could do without the political rants, as it has very little to do with BIG GOVERNMENT, and much more to do with abusing police powers. The police (animal control) are not elected officials.
200 rabbits in a 600 sq foot space doesn't sound great in terms of ability to move around, cleanliness, etc. At first glance, I would be a little disturbed by that.
What REALLY chaps my hide though is 'Sign them over or you'll owe $815 per day until you do.' What if she's found 'not guilty?' Then who pays for the rabbit's housing? Oh ya, the taxpayers.... So it's really no skin of their b@lls to seize them.
If she's found not guilty, what of the rabbits, then?
Now they are covering butt by saying "It was a zoning issue"; that they didn't realize that she was grandfathered and was not R1 zoning. There is an injunction to prevent the spaying/neutering or dispersal of any rabbits at this time. And you do realize rabbits are housed in stackable cages, generally?
OMG that's horrible about the rabbits...have you heard about the "animal rights" terrorist attacks on farmers? My brother is in North Dakota, where its happening or was recently. Pretty sick.
I have had people tell me that biking my dog was cruel, one guy said its illegal and he was calling the cops. I said go for it. Luckily here its still legal to train and exercise your dog. I corrected my dog in a pet store one day. Some lady gasped in anguish and said "oh my god!" I heard talking to somebody about cruel training methods. Logan was wearing a horrible pronged collar that day.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
