My 2 year old shephard has never had a problem where he had to wear a hood. Now he has some sores (not open) and he has gotten into the bad habit of licking them a lot. I've been trying to get him to wear one of those plastic hoods for awhile in the evening when he wants to lick the most, and he almost has a panic attack. Is there an easy way to do this or a newer type of hood someone knows about. Thanks for your help
He has one of the old style hard plastic ones. I've seen some of the newer hoods on line but not sure what would be best. I would love any advise you can give me. Thanks
.... I have seen it cause what I would call real distress. I used it for a short time (post surgery) on a small foster dog who hyperventilated and ran into a corner as soon as it was on, stumbling around frantically. What happened sounds funny, I know, but it wasn't at the time: she suctioned herself briefly onto the wall with her hyperventilating near the wall. Believe me, that collar came off as soon as I could grab her.
I switched her to an infant nightgown that I rigged shut below the sutures, but that was not very successful and I had to stay near her for a couple of days until the sutures weren't driving her to licking anymore.
