Like Austin's dog, my GSD is also displaying the lack of desire to work with the helper. My GSD is 17 months old and has been in a program since he was 5 months (OB & Bitework foundation training). He's being trained as a Personal Protection Dog since I'm frequently on the road. He has performed extremely well and was coming up nice until adolescents set in. Around 3 months ago, his performance and focus has steadily dropped and eventually would not take the tug or sleeve from the helper. I could not understand this because he's a prey maniac at home with me.
2 weeks ago, the trainer took him in and now the dog only plays with the helper - no other dogs or people. The helper is his only outlet. I just got a progress report two days ago and the trainer requested the dog stay 2 more weeks for which I agreed. My dog has made improvments and hopefully 2 more weeks with intense drive focus will do the trick.
