Just because these two glaring facts have not yet been noted in this thread
The Delta Society suggested this resolution (as noted on the bottom of the resolution)
On the BOD of the Delta Society you have both the Marketing director of Purina and "the nation’s premier cause-marketing consultant in the pet category" that has worked with Science Diet, Purina and IAMS.
Susan Thixton, author of Buyer Beware: The crimes, lies and truth about pet food. (the most comprehensive book of its kind), wrote that Brenda Bax, Marketing Director for Purina Pet Foods, was on the executive board of the Delta Society when they implemented their raw pet food ban (The Domino Effect). In addition, she traces several ties between the AVMA and the PFI’s biggest players.
The power of the association in vet school is very strong. Think of it, you know nothing---in lecture they tell you "this antibiotic for this disease agent" -- you memorize it, information given you by heavy breathers who know everything.
You worship these folks, their knowledge and experience.
If dog food comes into this mix you believe it just like you absorb how to read an Xray or how to diagnose pyometra. In the ICU are cans of ID, other specialty foods.
By the time you get out you think it's the only way. MUCH more than the money, you think you need ID or CD or SD like you need your other tools that help you do your job.
Absolutely no offense to you Dr. Betty. Your knowledge is amazing and I would thank you every day if I could for what you have shared and how much you have helped me and, I'm sure, others on this board.
I think brainwashing is a very powerful tool though when combined with ignorance. Reminds me very much of the Jim Jones scenario.
Food pathogens is such a scare these days and such an easy band wagon to jump on. Raw feeding can be a little daunting to a first timer, ignorant and not confident that they are preparing what their pet needs.
Create a little hype about how "dangerous" it can be to you and your family and I think most people will back out every time.
It's one of the worst forms of brainwashing as far as I'm concerned. What's black is actually white but they have people believing the opposite simply for profit, with no regard to the actual health of the animal or belief that people can learn with a little knowledgeable instruction.
How they call themselves scientists and teachers is beyond me.

Yes, some great info there (although, sadly, not really a surprise):
QUOTE:
"Veterinary organizations and partnerships with corporations...how do you feel about that? Is it acceptable to you for a national veterinary organization to accept large donations from...let's say...two animal drug companies and one pet food company? LARGE donations? If you think that's a bad idea, and the thought of such mega-million dollar partnerships makes your blood pressure rise, don't read this article. "
"..... It's called the Platinum Partner Program or P3 for short. Each Platinum Partner - Fort Dodge Animal Health, Hill's Pet Nutrition, and Merial entered into an arranged commitment to give the AVMA $380,000.00 a year for four years ($1.5 million dollars from each partner). 'In return, each company receives a broad range of benefits from the Association.' "
So in return for a million and a half dollars, Hill's, for example, receives from the AVMA "a broad range of benefits."
