Greta has been chewing on our prickly pear cactus. This thing is a monster and I have been hacking away at it on and off for a few months now trying to get rid of it. It's spineless, so I'm not too worried about her getting stuck in the mouth, but is there anything else I should worry about? Is the meat of the pads dangerous to dogs?
FYI this is the type that some people eat; I tried it myself and although it's not a favorite it wasn't bad lol.
I have been redirecting her as much as possible but there is a lot of cactus to grab for the time being lol.
Thanks, Connie. I saw the first site earlier but the reference that they use is no longer active. Hadn't seen the second; these lists always make me wonder whether the item is in the "could give them an upset stomach" category, or the immediately dangerous category. Wish there was a better reference online!
I had researched these articles a few years ago. I did my best to find the result of a dog eating the substance - in some cases I just could not find reference though.
