Help
I have an 11 week old male shepherd. Hates his nails done. I have tried both dremmel and regular nail trimmer. He shows teeth ,growls, bites and throws a real fit. I play with his paws several times a day. So far nothing seems to work. I just cut the nail where it hooks. Any ideals

I know I will probably be poopooed for this but has any one tried giving the dog a little bit of ace to calm the dog enough to get the job done? I've used this technique with great success in the past.and after two or three times the dog stops fighting. this was recommended to me by an old german dog trainer and it did great for adult dogs.
WHEN I SEE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, I'D BE WILLING TO DIE PROTECTING IT.
Funny to see this thread pop up again, as I was just thinking about it the other day. As Will said in his post last fall- dissect the problem into compnent parts-then train components, then reassemble.
We made clipping into a game with Konig-first, just touching paws and tapping them with the clippers. Then 1 snip, and immediate reward with play, food, etc. Shifted rewards around so he wouldn't get too riled for any one thing. Gradually moved to two snips, then one paw, etc. Now he sits for the whole thing-and romps like a parolee when it's done. Also plays with/chews handles of clippers. I consider this a small price to pay for the ease of trimming now.
