I have had quite a few litters over the last 15 years or so but I don't recall seeing this...maybe I did and forgot! Anyway, I bred my Malinois last week, she stood fine and the breeding was normal. She bred 3 days in a row and then wouldn't accept the male anymore. She bred on day 10, 11 and 12 (which is pretty much textbook behavior).
So....now a week later she is back to dripping bright red blood like she did at the beginning of her season. Ed says he has had quite a few bitches do this but wondered what you guys have experienced??? Jody, I know you have dealt with lots of breedings......... I am really excited about these puppies and am trying not to OBSESS about every little thing!!!
Cindy.. I don't think it is uncommon to go back to a brighter discharge. For your own piece of mind.. just keep an eye on her. Watch for a change in attitude.. or if the discharge becomes mucky and or smelly.. well you know that stuff!
But I have seen it quite a number of times.
cindy: t too have seen this in breeding german shepherds and pugs. i have seen it last up until about ten days. i agree with what jody said, and vets have reconfirmed this to me as well.
