dog photo I was wondering if any of you that have experiance in breeding could look at the abpve link. Could a dog like that receive a KKL rating? If so, what would you think it would be, based on the photo? I ask because my cousin has a female with similar coat and was wondering if he should bother training her for SchH, because if he did that he would ant to get a Kkl rating as well. All thought/opinions welcomed!
I'm sorry, my post was about as clear as mud, wasn't it? lol. What I meant was he wants to schutzhund train the dog for the purpose of titling the dog to breed. He only wants to breed her though, if she can get a Kkl rating of 1 or 2. So, he doesn't want to spend the time training the dog and having it titled unless he can get a good rating for breeding, if that makes any sense. He isnt really interested in competeing, but would like to breed a titled female. I told him I didnt know about teh coat length but that I could find out. I have one dog with a slightly longer coat, but nothing unusual, so I have no experiance in this particular area.
I don't know anything about shepherds so I can't help with your question. I do have my own question though. If your friend knows as little about GSDs as I do why does he want to breed?
That's the same thing I asked him, but he's family, so I decided to help as much as I can. He is a horse breeder by trade, but he wanted to try GSD's since he likes mine so much. He relied on a reputable breeder to sell him a breeding stock female, but he is now concerned about the dogs coat length.
schutzhund takes a more dedicated attitude than doing it just to be able to gain a KKL raiting.
I agree with you. I have my dogs for the joy of the sport and breeding is the last on my list. I may never do it. However, what I am asking is, does the dog pictured have a faulty coat and if so, what would the rating be, if any. I appreciate the opinions you guys have expressed and I agree with them, but I still don't have an answer. Nick, my cousin, is reading the responses. He knows that I dontt agree with him, but we leave our differances be and I help him when I can. Is there someplace else I should send him to find an answer?
The big thing is that the dog obviously has some sort of longcoat genetics going on, and that is supposed to be a no-no. I personally don't care if it's green and spikey if it bites well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
