Leather Leash
|
Our dog leashes aremade from soft Latigo leather. You will never find a leash of this quality in any pet store or dog food warehouse.
The snaps on our leather dog leashes and collars are made from the highest quality Italian bronze. These snaps are generally sewn and then pop riveted to insure the highest security available. This is very important in Schutzhund and police protection training where a broken leash can cause disaster.
You can buy a cheaper leash at any store in your town, but you will NEVER buy a better quality leash anywhere.
The 1/2 inch wide leather leash was a very necessary addition to our selection of leather leashes. This leash is 6 feet long and rivited for added strength, but thinner at only 1/2 inch wide. Perfect for mid-sided dogs like Jack Russell Terriers or Cocker Spaniels! They are Identical in construction as our 4 and 6 foot Leather Leashes that are 3/4 inches wide only these are lighter and thinner.
Check out our Equipment Page to see other hand-made leather items including puppy leashes, traffic leashes, drag leashes, collars and more!
The first thing I look at on a leash is its snap. The snap needs to be the finest quality contstruction possible. The snaps on our leather leads are high quality imported hardware. A snap that fails can result in a loose dog that could cause any number of problems, such as:
- Bite someone (in the case of a police dog or a personal protection dog)
- Run into the street and get hit by a car
- Result in a dog fight
The next thing to look for in a good leash is to see how the snap is attached to the leather leash. If the leash is wide enough, the snaps should be sewn and pop-riveted. Most of our leather items are sewn and riveted.
*Our Amish leather products are made with American-made leather that is stained using natural oils and dyes. There is a possibility that some color may transfer on some of these leather products. We recommend that you use discretion when using this product with lighter colored clothing.
Top is 3/8" wide, middle is 1/2" wide, and the bottom one is 3/4" wide.

Great quality collars and leashes! Only reason why we're buying is that we have another dog... because they certainly won't wear out!

Love the quality leash that I ordered for my current dog about 6-7 years ago. Getting another dog to the pack, I knew that I needed to get another quality leash from you guys. Glad you offer brown now.

Hello Mr. Frawley
Just wanted to let you know that I received my six foot 1/2" leash this week for my doberman and I just love it. Everything you said on your video is true about your leashes. It is strong and very supple and I was very impressed with the thickness of the leather.
Thank you,
Mary

I just wanted to let you know, that I really love my labrador's Leerburg burgundy color leather leash & collar that I purchased from you. They were not only beautiful, but the quality is exceptional. I must tell you that I recently had an experience to attest to that quality. I live in the Chicago area. My lab Georgie and I were visiting a friend about 45 miles from our house, which involved interstate driving to get home. When I left their home, I inadvertently left the leash handle dangling out the door and dragging on the ground. On that leash handle I always keep a key to my house on a heavy metal keyring because I frequently walk my dog and lock myself out. Well that key and key ring were gone, but the leash was hardly damaged at all. It is a little scuffed and a tiny bit thinner, but 45 miles on very high speeds, I was shocked that it held up at all, yet alone only being scuffed up a bit. I do not believe that a nylon leash, or any other leather leash would have stood up to that punishment. Don't worry, the leash was not attached to Georgie so no dog was hurt. Thank you for making a quality product I can trust.
Her next collar and leash will definitely come from Leerburg!

Every once in a great while you order something that is so good, you forget how much you paid for it - it doesn't matter. You are just so happy that you have it. That is how I feel about your leash. What a gem!
Thanks,
Brian

We purchased leather leads and collars from your site about 4 years ago and the quality is exceptional. Im excited to see the 2-handle leads being offered. We use cheapy nylon 2-handle leads when walking our dogs now, and I know your leather leads are superior!

Hello!
I received my order and I just wanted to say how delighted I am with your Amish-made collar and lead. Really top quality and handsome, I am thrilled!
It is a treat to come across something of such quality these days, even if it is merely a humble dog collar. So much has been lost in the old ways of craftsmanship in all things over these years.
Thanks again,
Reuben

Ed,
I have two leashes from 7 years ago that I bought from you. They are still soft, look great and I use them all the time, never do a thing to them but hang up again. They are the best. I am ordering the puppy one today.
Thanks again,
Cathie

Dear Ed,
I recently ordered a leather puppy leash and a 1/2 inch leather leash from you. They finally arrived in Singapore yesterday. I must say that they have lived up to all the hype - the leashes are simply superb. Thank you!
Could you please advise me how best to care for these leashes? Should they be oiled/cleaned with leather cleaners at regular intervals or is there no further need for oiling?
Best regards,
Shem

I just place an order through your website and wanted to take a quick moment to drop you a line. I've ordered your DVDs and other items from the site over the last year, and I've been consistently impressed with your products.
By way of example, I'm ordering a second leash from your company, having ordered my first about a year ago. During that time I've paid attention to leather leashes from just about every available source. Your leashes are so clearly the absolute best value that I've felt compelled to refer everyone that I know with a dog to your site to purchase one.
Thanks again,
Brian

We received our leads and we are very happy with them. We got two of the 4 ft ones and they are the perfect length. I can't believe how strong they are, and they work great for walking our minis. I am sending pictures, they are both mares, the paint (Tucson) is 4 and the bay (Phoenix) is 3. They were both rescues, and we bought them from the wonderful person who rescued them. They are both spoiled rotten, but they deserve it. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

First I want to thank you for all the help that one can get from your website I just believe that you are The Best.
I have a 6 months old Doberman Pinsher and your site is a tremendous help to me. I ordered lately from you a leash and collar leather. This is the best leash I have ever owned. What a superb quality and great workmanship. In 6 months I spend about $300 in leashes and collars. I discard them all. When I have the best I really don't need the rest and some collars are up to $65.
Thanks again and keep up the good job.

I just wanted to let you know that I used your methods of training with my dogs. I read your article in your catalog and used the basic principles of your training. THEY WORK! I have two male Irish Wolfhounds (dogs not known for performing well in obedience classes), but respond to basic courtesy and fairness. Although they are not perfect, they do not jump on people, get on the furniture, or take food off counters. They let people go ahead of them through a door and do not beg for food. I totally agree with your categories of trainers and your methods are the most fair and get the best results. Thank you for the advice and the great leashes. I have two and they are stronger than my wolfhounds. They also came to me already broken in which I appreciate.
Sincerely,
Sandy
Ed,
I ordered the Amish leather leash that you carry and I just recieved it yesterday. I was a little skeptical regarding the quality of the leather on contruction considering it is relatively inexpensive for a leather leash. I am amazed in the quality of the leather and construction. I can't believe how soft the leather is and how comfortable it feels in your hands. Just wanted to say thanks for carrying only quality products.
I have done a lot of reading on dog training and I haven't come across anyone that is more of an advocate of the prong collar than you so I was unsure about using one. My pup that is 18 weeks now started getting into the habit of pulling on the leash about 3 weeks ago and I wanted to stop this behavior before it developed into a problem. I tried using a choke collar but that had no effect on stoping my pup pulling. All that happened was he was choking him self. After reading many of your traing articles and watching the basic obediance video I decided to give the prong collar a try.
I can't believe the results. It was like he was trained to walk on the leash without pulling in 30 seconds. Now, 3 days latter, I can get him to heel or just stay close without any tension on the leash. I have to say the prong collar is an amazing training tool.
I tried doing a search to find a negative effects from the prong collar but to no avail I couldn't find any solid information. All I found was these so-called trainers saying it was inhumane to use because it causes pain to the dog and a halti should be used. I completely disagree. Whats more inhumane, a dog that wears a prong collar and learns not to pull or a dog that pulls so had he chokes himself every walk he goes on.
Thanks for all of your quality information and producdts and I look forward to doing business with you in the future. This is the place I will be getting all of my dogs products from now on based on the quality I have seen from the leash, training video, and your invaluable advice.
Thanks,
George

Ed,
I wanted to let you know that I received a 6' Amish leather lead I ordered from you today. As you probably know, to many people a lead is a lead. Most people just want it to be 6' leather and of passable quality. I have had many leads over the years that I have paid varying amounts for. I have to say that your lead is the best I have ever had. The weight and thickness of the leather is great, and the soft supple high quality of the leather makes it a pleasure to handle. Most lead require a couple of weeks or months to break in before they are comfortable in the hand and flexible enough to be easy to handle quickly. Yours' is broken in and ready to use from day one. I also want to let you know that I have found your videos to be very clear and informative.
Eric
Hello,
Just a note about the leash I purchased from you ,I have been looking for a Good quality leather leash for a while and locally here In central NY I have found only poor constructed ones and I am real pleased at the leash I purchased from you. I have a 95 pound standard Poodle as my companion Dog, in to obedience training and I really find your web site full of good info.
Rick
I just wanted you to know that I made a purchase from you on-line a few months ago. I've ordered leashes on the internet before, but yours were just wonderful. Not only was I impressed with it, I've had people stop me and ask where I purchased it!! I was very pleased with the whole order, including the video tape and the undercoat rake. Thanks for selling high quality products!!!
Kathy
Hello,
I received two leashes a 4 foot leather and the 15" traffic and am very impressed by the quality, Thank You for making a leash of this quality available to the public. I would recommend it to anyone out there who wants a quality product, that your companion deserves.
Thanks again,
Brett
Just want you to know that I LOVE these leashes. I had one that lasted me forever, then was chewed into 11 pieces last week. :( I guess the dogs like 'em too. It was time to reorder anyway. Thanks for supplying such a great product, at such a great price!
Heidi
Thanks for having a very simple and clear website, and very clear checkout process with reasonable shipping charges. I searched "google" for Leather Dog Leashes, and your site was on the 1st page; and indeed the description of the product and the price seems to be world class. Can't wait to start to use this leash!! Thanks & have a nice day.
Kind Regards,
Dan
I love the leather in your leashes, soft but strong! Can't wait for them to arrive. :)
Gretchen
Ed,
I want to thank you for the very nice amish leashes that you have brought to customers. I was using a leather leash that I bought from PetSmart, and the quality does NOT compare to that of the Leerburg amish leather leash. PetSmart leather leashes are heavy, stiff, bulky and cheap. Not only that, but the stitching was wearing off, as well, and I only had purchased it a few weeks back. My 1 year old Malinois would pull hard on the leash (not anymore, thanks to your Obedience and Dominant dog DVDs), so I decided for the sake of safety to get a good quality leash. I have given countless prong collar corrections, ranging from levels 1 to 10, and the Leerburg leash has not given up on me. A dominant dog collar has also been used with this leash, and the leash still holds up very well.
Thanks!
Julio
