Foundation Exercises Video I felt it was important to include some basic foundation skills that will help you achieve your heeling goals. In these exercises I am emphasizing rear end awareness and how to help your dog keep his rear in. One of the common problems in heeling is the dog that crabs which is heeling with the rear end out; this equals points off in the ring. Left turns are also difficult for many handlers and results in the handler turning left and the dog bumps into you by not picking up on your cue. This foundation work will help a lot with these issues, and it is also a fun exercise for your dog to learn. Small Dog Heeling This video will show you how to start off your small dog heeling from the very beginning. I actually do the initial teaching demonstrations with my Golden Sparks because the initial focal points are the same. However, as the focal points begin to change and become more fixed, you will see videos of small dogs demonstrating this process. Janice shows heeling techniques for small dogs up to medium sized dogs such as the Cocker Spaniel to give you ideas for those dogs that are even a bit larger such as a Springer or Cattle dog size.

I really enjoyed this video. Lots of good information on small dog heeling focal points (shown with small dogs) that I have never seen or heard of before. I could never get good attention on heeling but now I have a plan I can put into action, and it is working really well. Not all the video is done with small dogs but it does effectively convey the concept.

The title is misleading as Janice never works with a small dog and works entirely with her Golden. There are very few minutes demo’ing small dog training in the video and Janice isn’t handling the dogs. There are some interesting tips but disappointingly little is done with small dogs.
