My new puppy really isn’t into his food and will only eat it if it’s soaked with water. Do you know why this is happening?
Full Question:
Hi, my 10-week old puppy, since we got him, has never really been into food. We got the food the trainer suggested... didn't like it. Got a new brand, liked it for a day, then didn't like it the next. The only way he'll eat ALL of his food is if I soak it in water and let it sit for 30 minutes... Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Is it just a puppy thing...? Thanks!

If I was going to feed kibble I would absolutely soak it for 30 minutes or more even if the dog would eat it dry. Since your puppy will eat it soaked I would continue to do so, it's actually the best option for feeding dry food.
I feed raw personally, but I always suggest that owners that feed kibble soak it due to the fact that it's easier for the dogs to eat, easier to digest, and helps combat dehydration. Raw has a lot of moisture in it but kibble can actually keep dogs in a state of dehydration unless it's soaked for a while before feeding.

Oh interesting, thanks for the reply. The breeder suggested *** puppy food... they seem to have a decently high rating as far as quality goes for dry, but I did notice they seem to have some sort of relationship with them so that brings hesitancy. Any thoughts on them?I've been continuing to soak the food for 30 minutes and he's been good about eating all if not most. He's just a different kind of dog than I'm used to... I'm used to all dogs just chowing down the food hard... Not going at it so passively. But, glad to hear you agree with continuing this method.
Looking forward to hearing back about the food...

I haven't fed kibble to my own dogs since the 1990s and there are so many different options out there I'm not up to speed on the best.
I haven't heard of the brand you mentioned but again, there are so many brands now. The bottom line, find something your puppy likes that fits your budget and see how he does. Good luck!
