How do you reward your dog if they offer a behavior before luring/gesturing?

Hi Cindy, FIrst of all, thank you so much for answering my previous question about multiple people in the household and inconsistencies when training a puppy! You were incredibly helpful.
I've now purchased 3 of the DVDs from Leerburg (started with "Raising your Puppy" by Michael Ellis) and am now working on Ed's, "Basic Dog Obedience" DVD. Next will be "The Power of Training Dogs with Markers." I'm so appreciative of this material!
Ok - so question is, my puppy automatically offers a sit before I can lure or gesture. I don't know how to put that on cue when he already does the behavior so quickly. Should I just mark with my "Yes" and then say something like "good sit?" Thank you!
Cindy's Answer:
If he offers a sit before you can add the lure or gesture, then just toss a treat so he will run after it and then call him back to you and be ready to do your lure/gesture so you can practice. Saying 'good sit' after he is already sitting won't mean anything to him unless you go through and actually teach him what that word means. I hope this makes sense.
