My dog just had puppies and she isn't eating. What would you suggest?

Full Question:
As a Great Dane breeder, I've been using your formula for years and we love it. On Tuesday 05/03/2011, Zonie gave us 8 beautiful babies. She is a first time mom and is doing very good with her babies. The problem is that she's not eating much at all. She is also very picky with what she eats. We had her x-rayed on 05/03/2011 to make sure she was finished. I also had her calcium check and she was normal. On Tuesday 05/10/2011 I did a CBC/Chem7 and an ultrasound. Again everything is normal. No temp. She's just really off. I've never had a momma dog refuse food. I have even tried to hand feed her in the whelping box...still no. The babies are gaining weight and did not lose any weight. I started them 2-3 times per day on the formula and they are doing much better with their weights, but momma still seams off and does not want to eat. We are raw feeders as well and we have tried everything. I purchase canned dog food with 514 cal/can just to get her to eat more calories. Sometimes I can get her to eat 6 cans a day, others maybe 4. She was 174 lbs the day we bred her. She's 145 lbs now. Any suggestions.

Thanks,
Mona

I’d find a reproduction specialist and get this dog in for an exam. Losing 30 pounds is extreme and not something to be dealt with via email.

I’ve had bitches refuse food for a couple of days post whelping but never for this long and never with an extreme weight loss. Good luck, I hope she’s ok.
