What can you advise me to use for tick control that is safe and effective?
Full Question:
Hi guys, What can you advise me to use for tick control that is safe and effective. I used to spray a chemical on my lawn until I lost a 6 year old GSD to cancer. I tried a topical but my female GSD had a severe reaction to it. It didn't bother my male GSD. After giving it a lot of thought I felt it isn't safe to put a poison on the dogs. I started using a spray I believe I purchased from your kennel called organic neem spray with pretty good success. This year after all the spring rain we received there is an abundance of ticks. Is there anything new that is safe and giving good results. Thanks for your time.
Cindy's Answer:
I don't use any chemicals on or around my dogs. During flea/tick season I use the following products. I double the recommended amount of garlic and check my dogs over twice a day to remove any ticks that happen to hitch a ride. I don't ever have issues with fleas.
Flea Free Food Supplement
Garlic Daily Aid
Neem spray
Para Clear
My dogs wear a nylon snap lock collar with the shoo tag, and I saturate the collar with the Neem spray twice a day before we go out for our walks. I suppose you could use a bandana around the neck too, and saturate it with the Neem dip or spray. We live in an area with a lot of ticks and this has helped a lot. It's labor intensive but my dogs’ health is worth the extra time and effort I spend.
I hope this helps.
