For fitting the ecollar with contact points, my dog has long hair and I need the collar to make good contact. Do you use the 3/4

Full Question:
Hi Cindy,

After purchasing and watching your DVD on remote collars I have just now begun training and I am loving the results. They have been life changing not just for me, but my dog as well. I bring her to work with me everyday and her recall on the job site was awful. I took her to an obedience trainer and her recall never improved once the leash came off. I just want to thank you because it was your website that persuaded me to use a remote collar.

My question is with fitting the collar and the contact points. I have the Dogtra 280NCP and it needs to be fairly tight on her neck to make good contact with her skin. She is a chow/mix. I'd like to leave the collar on for most of the day so leaving it that tight for long periods of time concerns me. Do you use the 3/4" contact points for your long haired dogs or is it better to keep them as small as possible?

Thanks again, I love the site!
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
Hi Travis,

Thanks for the kind words, I am so glad the collar is working well for you and your dog.

I have found that it’s better to leave the collar snug with the points you have now than to use longer points and loosen it.

If you loosen the collar, the points will be able to rub as the collar slightly moves around and that is the scenario that causes sores on the neck (from the friction of the points moving against the skin).

If you are worried about the collar, are there times during the day that you can remove it altogether and keep her on a leash with you or crated? With that said, most days my dogs wear the collar from early AM til evening without a problem. I hope this helps.
