I have an 8 month old male and he has reached puberty and he bites at his private area and tries to pleasure himself and whines while doing this. We have a friend who has a female that just went into heat and they want to breed her with our dog... Would this be a good idea? Would it maybe help his problem and calm him a little?

I wouldn’t breed any 8 month old dog. You didn’t mention the breed you have but I don’t recommend breeding any dog until all health clearances have been done and the dogs being bred have something to offer the breed as a whole. This means having hips & elbows OFA certified at the bare minimum. There are so many dogs being euthanized in shelters that to breed a dog just because you have a friend who has a female in heat is a horrible reason to breed (especially an 8 month old puppy).

Also, breeding doesn’t calm dogs down, exercise, training and setting rules for dogs is what calms them down.

With that said, sexual behavior in intact animals is normal. If it’s something that bothers you then it may be advised to neuter the dog because it will likely get worse as he becomes more mature.
