Our 6 month old Golden keeps growling and baring her teeth at me when I try to take something away from her. (ie- a stick, or a slipper). I jump away because it happens very quickly and she looks really fierce like she's about to bite me) Now the problem is getting a little worse, I think because she knows she'll get what she wants if she does this. I know this is a huge problem because she sees herself has dominant over me. I have tried to establish good pack order. I go out the door first, I make her sit before I feed her, she doesn't sleep in the bed, etc. She has also been barking a lot *at* us. For example, she'll just go to her place, look at us, and then bark. I'm not sure if this is related or not. If you have any ideas of what to do, please let me know. I feel very mad at myself that my dog sees me as subordinate. Thanks.

You've allowed your dog to become the boss and you're afraid of it - you're in for a long and hard path to correct this problem, *if* it can even be fixed.
Study the sources that people have suggested for you and if you don't have the handler skills to fix this NOW, find a trainer that can.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh here but these are the types of dogs ( owner created, for the most part ) that end up biting and becoming unadoptable and eventually euth'd.
I see it all the time.

I don't get it though because I HAVE been doing those things that are mentioned in all those articles. I
-make her sit or lay down before she gets food
-make her sit stay while I go down the stairs and then I release her to come
-same for going out the door
-put her on a leash taking her out of her crate
-she doesn't sleep in our bed
-she knows commands: down, sit, come, drop it (if I have a treat), go to your place, give me five, go to your bed (crate)...
-she gets free reign of the downstairs if we can watch her; otherwise she's in her crate.
-recently I put her toys away and give them to her when I want to.

The dog cannot win in confrontations with the human. Not only has this happened, but it sounds like it happens repeatedly.
You're afraid of your dog. I believe that's a really basic deal-breaker. I think you will do best with good professional help.

Heather,
Connie has answered this one perfectly - if your dog wins a confrontation against you, it's the beginning of the end.
And for this to be occuring in a generally non-aggressive breed at such an early age in a bad, bad, sign.
You need to either envoke that behavior on purpose and be willing and able to give your dog the correction that it needs ( and that means possibly absorbing a bite yourself, which I've found that most owners are unwilling to risk ) or get a professional involved asap.
And it will likely take multiple, serious corrections ( which most owners are unwilling to do ) before the dog sees that the rank structure in your little pack has changed.

Heather:
Some lines of Goldens do have aggression issues.
I know a dog trainer who has seen multiple aggressive goldens from a single kennel in an area.
There is a possibility that something genetic like this is going on.
It seems like professional help is still the answer. good luck,

What is an example of an extreme correction? I have a prong collar. I used it for a day, but then stopped because she is only 6 months old and people here told me that's too young.

I wouldn't use a prong for aggression issues.
