We had Yoda, our 15 y/o Russian Blue kitty put down today. He had a huge tumor in his abdomen and even in his brain. I could tell he was miserable in the last week esp, held his tail down all the time and then today he had blood in his vomit and he fell down while trying to walk (not a seizure) and he started peeing everywhere. He was in pain so had to do the right thing. The phenobarbital bought him about 2 months of extra time. He didn't started feeling real bad until recently.
But he had a good life, we rescued him as a friendly stray living in the woods. He had almost everything he ever wanted, besides going outside off-leash anyhow. He was the sweetest cat and the nicest silvery coat softer than a mink. He had a very soft meow and was very creative about his hiding places and getting into things in the kitchen...always in trouble....but never on anyone's bad side. Too cute.
Now he's free.
This is the last picture I took of him with my phone a few weeks ago...still so cute.

I'm so sorry. This is the hard part of loving our animal companions. But to ease the animal down the road with some peace and dignity and help to avoid misery and pain and fear ..... what a gift we have the ability to give.
Not that that makes it any easier ..... it's never easy.

He sure is cute. That's a nice picture.

I was watching this movie "Sounder" with my mom, some of you may have seen it. Anyway, I felt Yoda's presence in the window next to me and looked and saw him in the window for a second. She felt him too and kept looking but didn't see him like I did.
As soon as they die, you can touch their body but their presence is not there anymore, it can be around you but its not in there. I felt a lot of love around me from him esp right after he passed. As sad as I was, it felt good, like him rubbing me and purring in a spiritual way.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
For a very long time after my (15 year old) Sid kitty left me, I would swear I "felt" him jump up on the bed and curl up behind my knees the way he always did. So sorry for your loss.
Very sorry for your loss, Tresa. With all the dog talk around this forum, we sometimes lose touch with the fact we have other pets also that share our hearts. Doesn't make it any easier when they pass either. You and Yoda are in our thoughts and prayers.
