*Special Needs* (Sorry about the novel... believe it or not this IS the 'short version'!)

Heads up... cutest dog ever coming through! Hi friends! My name is Ronan and I am about 2-3 years old. I have a secret special power that makes everyone I meet fall in love with me. 'Ridiculously charming' would be a great description of me! I seem to have endless energy but also endless snuggles & love. I am a very special guy looking for a very special home.

I am a bit 'too much' for other pets and children, so I am looking for a home where I can be an only child. The 'parent(s)' I'm looking for is a very specific kind of person. Not only do I need to be an only child, I also have a medical condition that will make most people (understandably) not want to adopt me.

As you can see... I'm kind of... um... naked. I originally came from a shelter in Texas where I was treated for demodex mange. They thought my fur should grow back fine, so they sent me on my way here to Wisconsin to find my forever family. I've been here at DCHS since July, and DCHS has been working with numerous vets to try to figure out my skin issues and why I remain naked. When the special medications, topical sprays, special shampoos & special diet didn't clear things up... I saw a dermatologist. After some biopsies, the results show I have skin cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer is too widespread on my skin to be treated, so my time on this earth is limited.

I don't know that I am 'sick'... all I know is how badly I want a home of my own. I will need to continue to get weekly baths, and remain on the pain medication for the remainder of my life. How long will I live? No one has an answer for that.

My quality of life needs to be closely monitored. I will likely require regular vet visits as I may be more prone to skin infections, and may also need x-rays to check if the cancer is spreading. I realize I'm not a highly adoptable dog, and that I come with some substantial 'issues'. I also realize I have a lot of love to give and will be an amazing companion to some lucky person(s)!

(A message from DCHS: Ronan is absolutely correct that he is special, makes everyone fall in love with him, and will be a wonderful companion. He is a very loveable lug and we are 100% dedicated on finding him the right home. At this time, he is not suffering and he is not in need of humane euthanasia. He has life left to live, and wants to spend his days/weeks/months/years in a home... maybe yours?
