One of our most common email questions is "Can you give me a timeline on when I should be training my dog and for what?" The answer is "NO" and this short video explains some of the reasons why.

I’d like the answer phrased in milestones, not timelines, and more geared to not having expectations that are too high in context of age, temperament and focus

I wanted to know timelines in training before my pup opened her eyes BUT quickly learned that like people every pup learns at a different rate. Michael Ellis is correct on timelines in training! As you bond with your pup they will tell you when they are ready to move on to a new step. My Shepherd pup is eager to learn & will stare at me with ears up as if saying "come on give me a command!" I stop what I am doing & use her cue as a teaching moment.

Good short video, but doesn't answer what I am looking for. I'm looking for like an example of a training schedule/format almost and how to know when to advance to either "the next step" or when to take on another exercise.
