Poor quality video. Extremely basic. Didn't cover many topics that I wanted to know about. Waste of money.

Great DVD for a complete novice, is worth a buy for anyone just starting out in learning to handle or train detection dogs. It teaches a tried and tested method for scent imprinting and as a newby you won't go far wrong watching this DVD. It has its faults where the trainer makes basic mistakes but this is also nice to see and show people new into training and handling that you will make mistakes.

This video is excellent! I don't know why anyone would rate it under 5 stars because it's informative, thorough and totally displays the process from start to finish. I had already trained my own dog for bed bug detection using methods I and others devised over 20 years ago while training drug detection K-9's. Though training drug K-9's is similar there are some subtle and some significant differences and this video pointed out every one of them, explained them and showed a working solution to them. One of my issues was residual odor. This video helped me to add a bit more training to focus my dog at the source of the odor and once she figured that out she now shows little interest in residual odor. She then leaves it to find the source. She is doing so well she is now ready for certification. Outstanding job!

I am giving this a 5 star rating as the content is outstanding. However, from the 2 hour point on it skips over and over. I watch 20 seconds then I see the same 20 seconds 2 more times. I am not sure if this would be the case with the DVD or just a streaming issue. Its slightly annoying but I am just focusing on the content. I have purchased 4 DVDs from Leerburg and though there is editing issues the content is OUTSTANDING.

I got this video a couple years ago because I thought scent work would be fun, it is something my dog and I can do together, and it would give my dog another mental/physical outlet. I am extremely grateful I did!

Shortly after obtaining this DVD I got involved with a SAR team and started HRD training. I am now a certified K9 handler (HRD Land - IPWDA). I used Andrew Ramsey's method to train introduce scent work to my dog. I am convinced the method he shares helped me by explaining the how's and why's of how to teach my K9 "obedience to odor" and a very clear indication. You will NOT find logical explanations of these principles from very many trusted sources.

Because I used these videos, my dog indicates completely differently than other dogs on my SAR team, she is easy to read, and she is very trustworthy. I started with this DVD because it helped me to more fully understand these aspects of search work.

The way Andrew teaches how and when to reward the dog are critical in shaping this behavior and it is an amazing foundational principle to have laid into your training - not just for sport but for real life searches! I also appreciate he goes into great detail about how to introduce searching to shy dogs.

Thank you so much for this information! It has had a significant impact on my personal K9 search team career!

On a side note, most of my training was done with just myself and my dog. This is not as easy, for sure, but with good timing and a little ingenuity, it can be done.

Good luck!

Fun to teach... but I train my dog alone. I got around that by wrapping the leash around something heavy in the lab and doing it all one handed... Tossing a treat to get my dog not to notice where I put the odor. I might incorporate a sit/stay later on in training, with search as a release. I digress, get the video if you want to teach your dog something fun.

I love this video EXCEPT I was really hoping they would go over single person training and handling. I have no one to handle my dog while I train the Nosework. I'll figure it out- I was just hoping for an easy out with this video. I agree with all of the other comments, even watching the video in 1/3's I am a glutton for punishment and took notes and watched the whole thing. And for the record I will watch it again and again.

I am a dog trainer and think this is by far the best method I have seen to start Nosework with. Throwing food into a box with a bunch of other boxes is cheaper than setting up this cheap lab. Really it's not with the different results that you get (to me anyway). I like my dog to understand and progress quickly through anything I work on, it tells me I am communicating effectively with my dog.

Andrew I wish I could see you do this in person,I know I would learn tons more.

Thanks To Michael Ellis and Ed Frawley for putting this into motion and getting it to all of us dog lovers.

I had no idea about this sport and how to teach it. It is a perfect introduction with ample demonstrations with different dogs that helps you walk through the different stages.

This is a great training video, Andrew is a very talented trainer, and he makes learning easy & fun for both human and dog :) I wish I could have rated it a 4.5, but the option wasn't given. Suggestions to those of you that are sitting on the edge of the "but it's kinda expensive" fence: BUY IT, buy at least the on-demand version. It's yours for 5 years and you will get more than your money's worth of information! As a trainer, I feel LB DVDs are the gift of training knowledge. A gift that keeps on giving, all you have to do is keep pressing the play button. Watch Ed's videos over and over again, that's the idea.

This vid answered all of my questions and hesitations about exactly where to begin in Nosework. The how-to's of teaching Nosework to ANY DOG (the video even addresses where to begin with shy & reserved dogs) is well addressed in the first hour, I almost caught myself falling asleep with the "yea, yea, yea we know!" boring details covered in the first hour. The meat and potatoes are covered in the 2nd hour, the 3rd hour will cover more finishing details of nosework.

If I had to go back and do it over again, I would have only watched this video in 1/3's because the human has far more to learn than the dog! So, watch it in 1/3's, take a short review or jot down some quick notes at the end of the hour, and by the time you're done watching, you'll be more than ready to teach literally ANY dog the fun sport of Nosework!

I just watched the Leerburg Nosework DVD, and it is great! It's the best way to get into detection work. Andrew is a great trainer, and his system is such that it will bring out the drive in any dog. He and Ed explain in very simple terms the foundation for detection training any dog. They work with a broad spectrum of dogs, from Cindy's Rush who is a high drive Malinois, to a 12 year old Dachshund, and they all have a great time. This is fun for every dog. In 3-1/2 hours of video, there was not one correction or compulsive environment.

The implementation of the Food Delivery Device is revolutionary. Previously, only very high prey / toy drive dogs could be trained focused response on source, but the Food Delivery Device changes that. Any dog can perform like a champ.

Detection training is very subtle. Without proper timing of rewards, proper handling and proper reward delivery, nosework is not possible. Andrew and Ed very successfully communicate these subtleties through explanation and examples of proper and improper actions. I can't recommend this video enough if you are looking for an activity to engage your dog's mind and body, or if you are involved in a small Police K9 detection program and wish to imprint your own dogs.

I can't wait for the rest of the series to become available. This is a "must have" video if you are interested in Nosework.
