My boyfriend has a GSD that has bitten 2 people. This dog growls and shows his teeth at me everyday. My boyfriend says the dog does this because I don’t give him love and attention. The dog won’t listen to either of us and does what he wants. Help!

Full Question:
The info on your site is very helpful. I have been with my boyfriend and we have been together for 2 years. He has a 4 year old German shepherd that is 100 pounds. In the past year, the dog has bitten 2 different people. Ever since he bit those people, he has become more aggressive towards me. He hasn't bit me (yet) but he growls and shows his teeth at me everyday. My boyfriend does not discipline him at all and he constantly yells at him all night long to lay down because he paces around the apartment. My boyfriend and I got into a huge fight because I think he needs to go to a shelter or be put down. My boyfriend says he doesn't have the time to train him properly. The dog does not listen to him or me at all. The dog does whatever he wants. My boyfriend says he growls and sneers at me because I don't give him love and attention. Ever since he bit, and my boyfriend did nothing about it, I am frustrated and think he should not be a dog owner. He gets mad when I suggests getting rid of the dog. Help!!

Cindy Cindy's Answer:
It sounds like you need a new boyfriend. By his own admission, he doesn’t have the time to train him. If what you have written is accurate, then I would expect some legal issues for your boyfriend in the future. There is so much anti dog legislation out there now that I won’t be surprised when your boyfriend ends up in court due to his lack of responsible dog ownership.

When all the humans involved aren’t on board with the dog in the household, there really isn’t anything I can do in this situation. This is a people problem first and foremost, when you get that handled then we can talk about the dog’s issues.

Good luck!
