I have two pups that were abandoned by their mother. I've using your formula, but they don't seem to be doing very well. What should I do?
Full Question:
Hi,I have 2 pitt/walker hound pups mixed. When the mother had them, she nursed them once, then took off into the woods to have the rest and never came back to these two. I am using your formula. They are only 1 day old the boy seems weak, while the girl acts like she is always hungry. They both eat from a bottle and have good sucking reflex. Also they seem to cry a lot. What should I do?
Cindy's Answer:
You need to make sure they are warm and hydrated. We have an article on the website about saving newborn pups.
Get a scale that weighs in grams and keep an accurate record of how much they gain. There is a chart on the bottlefeeding page to help you determine how much they should be eating and how often.
Content puppies don’t cry, if they cry they are likely either cold, dehydrated hungry or all of the above.
Good luck,
