Is it ok to let our new poodle puppy sleep in our bedroom in his crate his first few nights?

Full Question:
Hi Cindy!

We are a young couple who will be getting a miniature poodle puppy and we are wondering if it is a good idea to let the puppy sleep in our bedroom in his crate for the first couple of nights so that his transition to his new home is easier. Would that be spoiling the puppy and making it want to sleep in our room for ever or would it be easy to move the crate to another area of the house after the puppy has settled in its new environment? If so, do you have any suggestions for this transition period?

Thank you!
Cindy
Cindy Cindy's Answer:
I personally allow puppies to sleep crated in my bedroom at first. This gives them some comfort and it also allows for me to hear when they may need to go outside for a potty break.

I'd recommend reading some of the puppy training material on our website.

I'd also highly recommend viewing the videos Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months DVD and Establishing Pack Structure with your Puppy DVD.

I think they'll help you a lot. Congrats and enjoy the new puppy.
