I just wanted to add that I'm not one to subject a beloved dog to miserable procedures to fulfill my longing to have the dog with me a little longer. Not at all.

Oh, OK. I didn't realize that it actually worked on dogs also. Obviously I would support it, if it worked. You have any links you could put here for us to read?
Personally, I think since there is no dognip, peoplenip could be used to ease pain in careful doses. After my surgery and very negative experience with opiate pain killers...I am especially all for its medical use. I mean, you can't beat pain relief without nausea, you just can't...being miserable sucked and there wasn't anything I could do about it. That's besides the fact that I don't see why its illegal in the first place.

I know it's not cut and dried.
Actually it is.

Ian, I wasn't particularly saying one was better over the other. I saw a news item months ago about how most of the pushing to legalize marijuana has come from one specific billionaire entity, not much different from the huge drug corps. I've never used pot, never seen the attraction to it. And if I ever have a doctor tell me I need to use it, I'll make an informed decision then on how to obtain it.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
