I have two dogs and they occasionally fight. We have been working a lot on training, but what can I do to help stop this behavior?

Hello, I know that you are probably very very busy and don't have that much time answering personal emails but I thought I would give it a try. I have two male dogs, Ace who is 1yr and 2 months old and is a complete mutt (not sure what he is possibly puggle with something else that makes him a bit bigger), and Tyson who is 8 months old and is a pit bull/lab mix. Ace is about 48 pounds and Tyson is probably around 50 and an inch taller than Ace. I have read every book possible to make...

I have a 1yr old GSD that is becoming increasingly afraid of meeting friendly strangers. I was hoping that you could provide me with some product recommendations.

Hello, My name is Leon and I have a 1yr old GSD that is becoming increasingly afraid of meeting friendly strangers. I take him on walks daily and he has attended obedience class since he was five months old. Walking through the park or a crowd of people he behaves normal. The problems occur when I decide to walk up to someone for him to meet, he begins to bark and growl. In obedience class he is fine with anyone petting him even volunteers from audience. I am at a complete loss and was ...

My dog seems to be becoming dominant and aggressive. I know now I've done a lot of things wrong. What should I do?

I've spent the last several hours reviewing your web site and the articles you've posted. Before I make any more mistakes with my dog I have specific issues I was hoping you might give some direction including the videos you recommend. After reading your articles I realize the mistakes I've made and that I can't take them back - all I can do is go from here, hopefully I can stop this and it's not too late. I have a German Short hair pointer (no other dogs): Male turns 4 years old in Novemb...

I have an 8-yr-old GSD who bites people. I bought an Innotek Shock Collar but am not sure if I'm using it properly. I heard I should not use it to control aggression?

Cindy, I have an 8 year old GSD who I can no longer socialize with any new people or animals. He had good basic training, grew up in our sub-rural property and was always friendly. He was the dog who broke down stereotypes about GSDs. The exception was towards the young boy across the street who was afraid of him. When I foolishly did try to introduce him I was shocked when my dog "nipped" the top of his hand (I shouldn't have been). Five years, one divorce and two house moves late...

My puppy is almost 11 months old. At night (anytime after 10:00pm) he turns into a grumpy old man and growls at us. How do I correct this problem????

Ed, Let me start off by saying that I have purchased a large number of your videos (11 total) and products- and I think they are all great. We have tried to train our puppy following the training steps you teach in your videos. Frankly, we have a problem that may even blow YOUR mind- and I know that with your extensive experience in the dog training field you have likely heard of every type of dog behavior problem by now. My puppy is almost 11 months old. He is a neutered...

I've been watching your video on establishing pack order in the family and I recall you mentioned when a dog raises its front paw and places it on you; I forget the meaning.

I've been watching your video on establishing pack order in the family and I recall you mentioned when a dog raises its front paw and places it on you; I forget the meaning. This seems like a statement of superiority to me, but I think you mentioned it is actually one of submission. Should I allow my dog to do this? Please explain... Thanks Christine

I added a 3rd dog to the house. I don't want these dogs fighting over stuff. How do I do this? What collar is best to ensure it doesn't slip off a dog's head?

Hi, I recently added a third dog to my household. I wanted to ask a few questions about pack leaders. I will be purchasing your video for additional help. I watched your video on the web with the puppies. I was amazed at how such young dogs try to establish rank. Now that I have three dogs I really want to continue to maintain my position as pack leader. I know the importance of it. I think I am doing a decent job, but there are things I can improve on. So my first question is, my ...

I own an eight month old doberman. He has separation anxiety, jumps up, climbs fences, gobbles food, and has no manners. Any training school recommendations?

I am the proud owner of an eight month old black and tan Doberman, He is one of my own puppies. I have raised him from day one and that is the problem. I chose to keep him and to sell the other pups along with the mother. Well that was the first problem. I have babied him entirely too much. He has great drive with no understanding of punishment. His drive is to get to me. He has separation anxiety, jumps up, climbs fences, gobbles food, and has no manners. I have no patience with an unruly do...

My young dog is trying to bite me if I block her from having something that she wants. I don’t use a long line anymore because she gets tangled in it, what should I do?

Dear Cindy, I have a 10 month old female GSD. We have the use of our neighbors acre size fenced yard and I take my dog over every day to let her run and exercise her. Today, she was getting into something I didn't want her messing with and when I tried to block her getting to what she wanted, she lunged at me a few times trying to bite. I literally had to kick her back to keep her from biting at me. I have seen the pack structure DVD and she has been through obedience training since the ...

My mother has a problem with training the two dogs she did not have from puppies. She's a good trainer. What's your opinion?

My mother has a 1yr old spayed dachshund. She is well behaved but has a problem that when she is hurt or scared by something (physically, like her lastest, a spiral fracture) she will go hide and not come out when called. She will lay and look at you, thumping her tail, but has to be physically removed frm her hiding place (crate, bushes, under the truck). My mother does allow she has good recall, but only when things like horse poop or playing with the cats are not more exciting. Then it...

I adopted a white GSD mix. Comments from others have made us suspect that he may be a low content hybrid. Should I be overly cautious?

I have read with interest your discussions on hybrids. I adopted a 6 month old male pup from our local SPCA in December. He was described as a ?White German Shepherd mix,? but looked pure bred to me at the time. I currently own a female GSD which I obtained from a breeder at 9 weeks of age. As Diablo (the male) has grown and developed the last 3 months, his body shape, fur, facial structure, some behaviors, and comments from other ?dog people? have led us to suspect he may be a low conte...

What training should I concentrate on for the first year of my dog’s life to get him ready for Schutzhund?

I have really enjoyed your videos on puppies 8 weeks to 8 months and also Basic Dog Obedience. My puppy Shepherd is going great and really learning a lot. I read your articles on bite training. My puppy is very playful with my family and the neighbors kids. But he is very aggressive when it comes to tug of war and ball etc. He will go after a ball like a wild animal and go through anything to get it. The question is what should I concentrate on his first year. I have a Schutzhund training...

My 8 month old Malinois used to have a full grip with no problems with the stick. Now when I get it out her grip goes to heck. What can I do?

Hello Mr. Frawley, I have an 8-month-old Malinois and I have followed your advice on the two tapes I bought (bite work for puppies and first steps of bite work) and I have my Malinois biting very calmly and he will bite with a full mouth and just be so calm on the bite. I used to use the stick in the beginning but he was very nervous around it so I was informed by our decoy to stop using it, so I stopped for 3 months. Now I thought it was time to bring it out again since he was biting ...

I am concerned about some of the people that I train with having Sch 3 dogs that cannot take a normal stick hit. What is the sport coming to?

Hello Ed I have spoken to you before, and the reason why I am writing you about this issue is that you keep it real. I am a helper and a good safe helper. This past weekend I was getting some dogs ready for a trial and I gave them nice hard, but FAIR stick hits and the dog came off the sleeve. The stick hits were not that hard and any damn way, this soft ass SchH 3 dog was supposed to endure a solid hit. At any rate, the first thing the lady said was that the dog was hit too hard a...

The Schutzhund club I train in does not allow me to train my dog while she is in season. I think that dogs should learn to work all the time. Do you agree?

Hi Ed, I have a fantastic bitch that is doing really well, and is exactly where I want her at this stage. However, when she goes into heat she is banned from all club events and training (except trials) for three weeks. I have always thought that just because your male smells a bitch that it is no excuse for them to go stupid. When she is in heat I shorten her training sessions, but other than that I do nothing different. I guess my question to you is...Am I off base on this? ...

I also have a younger dog I'm doing Schutzhund with and would like to do agility also. I've been told not to do both at the same time as it will bring confusion. Any thoughts on this?

Hi Cindy, We have a 4 year old German Shepard. We took obedience classes with her when she was young and did agility with her as she grew up. We have a bit of an attention problem in that when she get excited about an activity she feels she no longer need my guidance. I am trying to be polite but actually she is not. She blows me off. I tell her she is being rude and that is not acceptable. If we are doing agility lets say we will start off okay, but she get excited and runs her ow...

I want to get my 14-month-old Shepherd involved in Schutzhund but I haven’t done much obedience because I didn’t want to ruin his drives. What video or book do you recommend?

I have a 14 month old shepherd and I want to get him involved in schutzhund training. I had him evaluated by a state police k-9 trainer and he told me my dog had great potential. I have been very light on obedience training to this point. He knows basic commands but at times I have been unable to enforce them----not wanting to ruin his drives. I called your office and asked them to recommend a training video or book on obedience training. They told me to ask you. He cannot begin schutzhun...

My new dog will not be quiet during the long down. What should I do?

Dear Ed, I have a male German Shepherd that I have been training for Schutzhund. I have been working on adding distractions with him on the down stay, however when the other dogs are out on the field and he see's them running he will start barking uncontrollably. I have him where he won't break the stay but the barking really gets on my nerves. What do you suggest should I give him a good correction or I have a tri-tronics no bark collar I purchased from you, or just let him...
