I currently feed my 3 dogs Honest Kitchen, Embark, and Force. It realized the box won't last me for the week with usual measurements. Advice?

I currently feed my 3 Weimaraners (2 - 60 pounds, 1 - 80 pounds) Honest Kitchen, Embark and Force, (sometimes Preference). I am also feeding them raw in the morning, RMB's and meat, (alternate). I tried asking the people on the H.K. forum this question but I don't think they are understanding me. I am reading your questions and answers maybe you can help me? You mention something about giving 1/2 of H.K. to cut the cost down. So, if I am reading this right, instead o...

How do the Verve and Keen formulas compare in terms of Nutritional Analysis? Do you think it is wise to vary the Honest Kitchen formula I serve to my dogs?

Hi Cindy, A friend recently recommended the Leerburg website to me as a #1 resource for getting started on raw feeding. I must say I have been more than impressed by the plethora of information available on your website. Thank you! I switched both of my senior dogs (American Pointer & GSD) off of a prescription kibble diet to a raw diet supplemented with the Honest Kitchen Verve formula as recommended here. They are both doing VERY WELL and LOVE the Verve formula as much a...

I have a 7 month old male. He is very submissive and is doing very well overall. Do you think for someone like me your basic DVD would be recommended?

Ed, Very informative web site (A level). Although I did catch a typo which you may want to address. I have a 7 month old mini long hair male doxie. He is very submissive and is doing very well overall. I been using TRAIN YOUR DOG THE POSITIVE WAY DVD and wanted to go a little further. My main concern is off leash fun. I do take him off leash (in parks and such) and he pretty much follows me everywhere but sometimes he is slow to come to me when called or just stops and looks at me when ...

My dog sometimes limps, we had him x-rayed and the vet said everyting looked okay, just some slight atrophy. What would you suggest?

Hi Cindy, I'll try to make this short. We live in a small town in Texas. Our family dog, Luke, limps sometimes and really gives in to his right rear leg. Took him to vet several times and finally asked him to xray his leg. He said everything looked okay just some slight atrophy in his hip but nothing to worry about. Of course that really worried me. Luke has been on a raw diet since he was 12 weeks and is not over weight. He is large for breed and weighs 53 lbs. He runs and...

Recently one of my dogs has started licking excessively after she eats. Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

First I want you to know how much I enjoy your website. Lots of good info and quality products. I have a problem I hope you can help me with. I have been feeding raw for almost a year. I feed chicken quarters, chicken liver, venison, pork, and raw eggs. Recently one of my dogs has started licking excessively after she eats. It looks like she is licking the end of her nose or the roof of her mouth. Sometimes she licks so much her belly swells. You can see her deflate when she burps. This ...

I followed the instructions for the Embark but it ended up being soupy. Did I use too much water?

I just got the tub of embark. I followed the instructions (or so I thought) and the ending mixture was soupy. Did I use too much water? I was also hoping to get some of your ideas on recipes or ways of mixing embark with raw food Thanks, Tim

Is your food or any part of it connected with Menu? Can you give me some info on where your food is produced?

I know my inquiry is probably one of hundreds because of the recent scare. I had a friend who lost a dog just last week with terrible vomiting, lethargy (signs of kidney failure). I have two dogs, a Gordon Setter and a Chihuahua, both under 2 years of age. I either want to make their food until this mess is settled (if it ever is) or try a good organic food. Please tell me, is your food or any of it parts connected with Menu? If not, can you give me some of the particular on where it is p...

According to the lab work from Bio-Medical Labs she is allergic to: Chicken Beef Peanut Corn Carrots Oats Beets Rice Border line on Pork She is currently eating Royal Canine Duck & Potato dry food or can. Can I feed my dog Honest Kitchen alone since I am traveling and it is hard to stock up on raw food?

My 55 lb. (was 65 lbs. but shed 10 lbs in 2 months) Labrador Retriever on the Raw Meaty Bones diet since October and she loves it! I currently live in Southern California and will be relocating to Hutto, Texas in February 2007 to attend The Triple Crown Dog Academy. I will be driving there with my dog and staying for the 12-week program. I want to keep her on the raw diet but have no idea how I can bring 3 months worth of frozen raw meaty bones with me during the drive. I don't know if I ...

My dog is allergic to many things. I supplement her with cooked ground beef and egg. Would Honest Kitchen be a good choice for her?

Wish I had discovered this site long ago. I've got a 10 year lab. Allergies galore. We've tried all kinds of diets. Lamb is very bad. Yep, I said lamb. We were using Wellness with whitefish--which seemed to help a lot. But Trixie developed bladder stones from it. Now she is on a vegetarian diet which I supplement with ground beef and egg. I do cook the ground beef and egg though. Trixie seems happier. However, if I go away I'm not sure the kennel will be eager to do what I d...

My dogs have a few health issues. Any suggestions? Could you also tell me how long a 4lb bag would last?

I am strongly considering switching my 4 dogs to this food (Thrive). Right now I am feeding 3 different types from Science Diet( Growth, Light, and Senior). I had previously fed Flint River but switched due to the cost. I was looking at the options for my dogs and I think the Thrive would be the best bet. I have a 3 yr GSD, 13 yr Golden, 19 yr Golden and 16 mo Golden. I would love to have just one food to handle but want the correct food also for their needs. My older golden has a h...

My dog is underweight so my vet believes it may be E.P.I but want me to up her food intake first to see if that helps her gain weight. What are your thoughts?

Hi: I had sent a question asking about rabies vaccine yesterday...but we made it thru the vet visit ok...she was very adamant though that I get the Leptospirosis vaccine. She said its because we live in a remote area with a lot of wildlife and it can be transmitted to humans. The lump my dog has ended up being a sebaceous cyst. My dog is also underweight so they think it may be E.P.I but want me to up her food intake first to see if that helps her gain weight. She is fed a raw ...

With yogurt, my dog went from 5 random bowel movements a day to 2 scheduled ones.

I am enjoying your web site so much, and I thought I would return the favor by mentioning something that I have not seen elsewhere. I adopted a twenty pound six month old pomeranian mix from the shelter about a year ago. Great dog, no real issues. There was one issue that did bother us quite a bit. When we first got him he would throw up and have diarrhea all the time, making it very hard to house break him. We tried different dog foods and finally went with Evo, even then he still...

I have three pugs, one of which is having some problems right now. He is knuckling over. Which Honest Kitchen food would you recommend?

Hello, I have three pugs, one of which is having some problems right now. I didn't realize it until recently, but his knuckling over (pretty minor) is probably caused by too much protein. I have tried several lower protein dog foods and have not found one that has solved the problem. I had him on Eagle Pack (not the holistic) for about 3 weeks and he turned up with blood in his urine. I immediately switched him to the holistic Solid Gold food and added Apple Cider Vinegar with ...

What are the risks of having my bitches x-rayed with a sedative for the hips when they are in season?

Hi Cindy, I came across your site tonight on a Google search re above, fascinating as I have golden retrievers, you are now in 'favourites' I need time to read and absorb so much information on HD. We do not have so much in UK. My question is, & I seem to have something in the back of my mind, not to x ray nor put a bitch near her season under anesthetic but cannot totally remember the reasons why, some-one called and asked for advice, had been told by receptionist that ther...

My 8-month-old GSD pup was diagnosed with giardia. Will most dogs eventually respond to the meds or build an immunity to the giardia?

My 8 month old GSD pup was diagnosed with giardia. He is currently on his third dose of panacur and metro. He seems to be maintaining his weight and has a healthy appetite. In doing some reading, there are cases where the dogs die from heart or kidney failure with this parasite condition if not treated. In your experience, will most dogs eventually respond to the meds or build an immunity to the giardia? I am concerned as the previous two treatments were not effective. Thanks so much for any ...

Is there any reason to wait another month to neuter? Will I be limiting any development of the dog by having the procedure done at 5 months?

Cindy, As always, your website and numerous available resources are extremely helpful. I have a question regarding the timing of neutering a male puppy. I know the 8 weeks to 8 months DVD recommends 6 months of age, however, on my last vet visit with my 4 month old male, she recommended taking care of it at 5 months. Her rationale was that the dog was large enough for the procedure. I would estimate my male puppy's weight to be approximately 50 lbs. at 4.5 months, which could mean...

I took my dog Nika to vet for skin problems. She said she has subcutaneous cyst. Is there anything different for shampooing or combing that can be done to prevent it?

Hi Cindy, took my dog Nika to vet for skin problems. She said she has subcutaneous cyst. Her pores aren't releasing the natural oil so it is plugging leaving a lump on her bum and some are scabbing over. Is there anything different for shampooing or combing that can be done to prevent it. What do you wash your dogs with? Some people use baby shampoo and then conditioner, others use medicated, what is the best at least for you. Thanks so much Cindy. Michelle
