My GSD just had 11 pups and I have a few questions.
Hi,
My GSD has just had 11 pups, I was wondering what is the best food she can have to keep her strength up and to make sure she is producing enough milk for them. Also quite a silly question, how will she know which pups have fed and which haven't, as she only has 8 teats?
Many thanks,
Rebecca

My dog just had puppies and the vet's recommendations don't seem to be helping. Help!
Hello,
I had my first (and last) litter of pups on Thursday 7/2. I had a total of 6. Today 7/7 I have a total of three left. I am a very emotional person since I can't have kids I consider my dogs my babies, I didn't intend on breeding my dogs but it just happened. I have been to the vet er three times this week and I am 700 dollars in the hole to pups that I am not even keeping (so my husband says). They had there tails docked because they are rottweilers. The vet is telling me t...

My store did not have the canned goats milk but did have a carton of cold pasteurized goats milk with added Vit D. Is that fine to use?
I just wanted to say Thank You for your Puppy Milk Replacer Recipe. My Parson Russell Terrier had her 4th litter 6 days early. All 5 puppies looked and seemed full term and weighed in well. However the mom has not been producing milk like she normally does and the puppies began losing weight. I began supplementing with store bought Esbilac Puppy Milk Replacer. I had to pretty much force the puppies to take the bottle and dribble it into their mouths. On the 3rd day one of the pups went do...

My dog just had puppies, what should I do - if anything at this time?
Cindy,
I have a german shepherd that gave birth to 3 pups 8 days ago. 1st born male weighed 366 grams and the girls were 508 and 520. The girls now weigh1040 grams and1056 grams. My concern is with the male. Yesterday he weighed 836 and this moring 846. The girls went from 960 to1040 and 968 to 1056 grams. What should I do- if anything at this time? Also, since the male was smaller at birth than the females, does that mean that the male will be a smaller dog when he gets older?

I'm using your bottlefeeding formula and I'm having a hard time getting the hole in the nipple the right size. Would a Y slit work??
I have a litter of Shepherd pups that need to be supplemented. I have used your formula in he past and was very happy with it. he pups are 4 days old & just haven't been gaining much weight. I fed half of them a bottle last night & they gained anywhere from 50g to 90g! compared to 0g to 15g for the pups I didn't give a bottle to! (pretty convincing for me to help he mom feed them all).
My question is about bottle nipples. I know that you use Playtex bottles & those are the ones I u...

What is a normal length of time for the screaming to persist? 2 Weeks? Can I put a citronella bark collar on her this young?
Hi Cindy,
I have a lab pup that is nine weeks. I got her one week ago. For the the first 1-2 days, she stayed in her crate all the time except to potty. She was/is a screamer, so I needed her to get used to crate.
She's calmed down a little, but still screams when she sees me to get out. I never open crate until she is quiet. After potting or playing in kitchen, she will follow me in to eat when I rattle liver treats. She will fight like a tiger if I just put her in with no ...

Our neighbor has a mature male Rott who growls at my husband. This neighbor babysits for our 2 and 3 year old children and lets the Rott run loose. What should I do?
I REALLY need some advice. Our babysitter and neighbor whom we dearly love is the owner of a Rott by the name of "Baby." The dog is actually her husband's pet & has been fairly well behaved around me and my children so far, they have lived beside us for approximately 1.5 years. However, the dog has shown some aggressive territorial behavior to my husband. For instance when he was putting mail in our box which border's their yard, he has growled, or has come up in the drive when Lambert wa...

My dogs are attacking each other! I don't know what to do, please help!
Hi,
I have 3 three Great Danes. We have the mom, and two of her puppies, which are now two years of age. The mom is still nice to both of them. The two puppies are both boys and have always been such great friends until recently. Our one dog just had bloat and survived the surgery but was really vulnerable when he came home. As soon as he walked into the door at our house the other dog which is the leader attacked him. Every single time that he sees him he attacks him. We put a muzzle on t...

While trying to teach stand, my dog just scoots backwards while still sitting. Do you have any suggestions for this?
Hi Cindy,
My puppy Cecelia knows all her basic commands except Stand. The way Michael teaches it is by having the dog sit, & then pushing the food hand towards the dog's face until they kick out their rear legs & stand. This has not worked on Cecelia - all she does is scoot backwards, still in a sitting position. I can get her to stand by having her sit & then moving the food an inch forward in front of her - is that wrong? Do you have any suggestions on this?
Thanks,
~Tori

I have a 4 month old GSP. He started to bark at someone and the handler pulled the puppy and the puppy bit the handler. Is that normal?
Hi good day!!! I just have a question regarding my 4 month old german shepherd. He was barking at someone and the one handling him pulled his leash to prevent him from attacking the person he was barking at. But instead of stopping he bit the one holding him. The dog didn't have any attack training or have any advance training. He has just been trained at home with basic training by me which is only my first time to train a dog. Thank you and more power!!!

Our dog tears up my wife’s outside plants when we leave him alone in the yard. What can we do?
Hi Ed,
I have purchased several of your training tapes and everything is going well except for one problem. Our dog (a 6 month old brindle boxer with a wonderful temperament) loves to rip down and play with plants my wife has planted in our yard. He loves corn stalks, decorative ears of corn etc. We have big fenced in yard and let him run around by himself although we are always home when we do. This usually happens during the day when my kids are at school, although my wife is hom...

My 8 year old Dalmatin digs holes in my carpet. What can I do?
I have a Dalmatian who is 8 years old. I think she's fairly neurotic and she's been neutered. She has dug holes into our carpet and I don't know what to do. If you give her a bone she tries to bury it in the carpet as well. This results with a bloody nose and blood all over the house. Please help!
Thanks!

I have a couple of problems with my new pup, including a dislike for the car, sometimes getting car sick, and bitting at me when I'm at his level. How can I fix these problems?
Hi there,
I have an 8 month old Napolean Mastiff x American Bulldog puppy. He is a very friendly dog but when he gets excited he occasionally pees. He is a little nervous of new surroundings. He doesn't like going in the car and when I try to take him for a ride he lays down so that I have to lift him up and put him in which may be hard once he is full grown. He also throws up in the car if he is fed before a drive. What can I do???
Also, when I am at his level he gets reall...

We have a chocolate lab who is very hyper. We have a problem with him staying off the counters and going in the sink. Please help.
Hi,
We have a chocolate lab and he is very hyper...although he basically very good. We have a problem with him staying off the counters and going in the sink. He does not like the crate, he slobbers all over himself when I crate him and leave the house. He is 7 months old and I gate him an area of the hallway where he cant really do any damage but now he jumps the gate so I have been double gating the area. Sometimes he knocks the gates down. He also steals food from the table...

I got my dog from the Humane Society. She chews up paper and wood. Do you have any advice, and if so, which type of muzzle would be best for her?
Hello,
I have been perusing your web site, as I am wondering what to do about my dog's chewing problem. I got the dog from the Humane Society, treated her for heart worms, and figured the worse was over. However, she chews up paper (in any form--newspapers, books, mail, etc.) and wood (furniture, namely the coffee table).
The dog in question is a 20 month old weimer/chocolate lab mix who lived most of her life at the Humane Society. I also have a four year old weimer, and th...

My 10 week old puppy pees all the way through the kitchen when I pick her up to take her outside every morning - help!
We purchased an Australian Shepherd who is now 10 weeks old. She likes her crate, but in the morning when I get up to take her out, she stands up and then immediately starts to pee, I carry her out and she pees all the way through the kitchen.
She also seems to think that every time we go for a walk which is at least twice a day, that she has to poop in the street. Sometimes she will go when she first gets up, as soon as she eats, and then in the street on her walk. She does get ab...

My 4 month old puppy doesn’t always relieve herself where I want her to in the yard. Should I correct her for this?
I have had this 4 month old puppy for 3 weeks. When we first rescued her, we showed her where to go (urinate and defecate) in the yard. At first she did so well. I always praised her. We did not always go right back in the house afterward. Sometimes we would play or exercise. Now she is going anywhere she pleases. After a walk just now, I took her to the designated area and she did not go. I walked across the lawn to the garbage can with dog in tow and she stopped and went along the way. ...

My 10 month old pup is pooping in the night. I can’t crate her because it seems cruel. What would you suggest?
We have a ten-month old Yorkshire Terrier. She has been going through the night for several months without needing to go outside. We feed her early, around 5:00, and take her out several times after dinner and immediately before we got to bed. After reading several articles, I have read that dogs probably should be crate trained. We have had her seven months. We did not crate train her. It seemed cruel at the time and she howled for hours on end.
Our problem is that during the last...

Our 11-month old Papillion was housetrained, but it has started to come in from outside and poop right in front of us. What can we do?
We have an 11-month male Papilla. He has been doing a great job of going to the bathroom outside until recently. We will take him outside and he will urinate outside, but we bring him back in, and he sometimes goes inside also. We have been giving him more love and attention, and he will still sometimes go right in front of us. He knows that when we wake up in the morning we will put on our shoes to take him out. One morning we went to put on our shoes, and there he went. What can we do t...
