Ed Frawley on What To Do When Meeting Other Dogs on The Trail
In this video, Ed Frawley explains how to handle meeting other dogs on the trail or in public. It is your responsibility as the handler to protect your dog from other dogs, especially if they are off-leash. Many people try to excuse their off-leash dog by saying, "Oh, don't worry, he is friendly." The appropriate response to this is to block the new dog from yours and say that your dog doesn't like new dogs and has bad experiences in the past.

Leerburg strongly recommends the use of a dominant dog collar as a safety backup collar when using a prong collar. Prong collars can come apart or break at any time. With the use of a prong collar leash or prong collar adapter, you can clip the leash to both the prong collar and the backup collar and be able to retain control in the rare occurrence that the prong collar fails.
To learn how to correctly fit a prong collar, go to How To Fit a Prong Collar or purchase our Basic Dog Obedience DVD/Stream/LOU.
When people have specific training questions we recommend that they go to our website and post those questions in the ASK CINDY on the front page of leerburg.com. Cindy has been training dogs since she was a teenager and has competed in several dog sports at a regional and national level. She was also a vet tech and owned a boarding/training and grooming business for many years as well as breeding working Dobermans and Belgian Malinois under the kennel name Kaiserhaus. Questions posted to ASK CINDY are answered almost every day. They are also recorded in our systems if a dog owner has additional questions Cindy will review the previous Q&As and this helps her give better feedback and assistance. Ask Cindy!
