My dog had puppies about 3 weeks ago and has been nursing them fine until recently. Is there a home remedy I can use to soothe her so she will nurse them again?
My Cairn terrier has just had puppies about 3 weeks ago and up until the past few days she has been nursing them fine. Now she doesn't really want to nurse them and I wonder if it's because her nipples are so scratched up with bumps from them being irritated. Do you know if there is a home-remedy I could do to soothe her that way she will feel better to nurse her puppies?
Thank you

Is it always necessary for the dogs to 'lock up' to have a successful breeding?
Question: I am currently attempting to breed my female lab. We tried one season before but we were unsuccessful. The male is very interested however he appears too big. I have read through the question and answers and I am in the process of using a lubricant and elevating the female just a bit. The male is making contact but the minute he makes contact my female is trying to turn around and nip him. Do the male and female need to lock up in order to have a successful session?

We have a 5 week old pup with a possible heart defect. Should we wait for him to die naturally or should we put him down? What would you do?
Hi
We've been breeding dogs for about the past 6 years. In the last two litters how ever we've had one puppy with a heart defect. We breed two of our females with this male and the one female's pups have always been healthy so we figured the defect was coming through from the other female so we've stopped breeding her. A third female that would never mate with our male finally became pregnant and had a litter almost 5 weeks ago now through c-section. Two of her pups did not make it. So we ...

My Chihuahua just had pups and is acting a little strange. She picks up 2 of the pups and tried to leave them under the couch. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Hello,
My chihuahua just gave birth Sunday, and now has 3 beautiful pups. Her experience was not a good one ending up in critical care (She was unable to push them all out) When she is in her box she is very protective, and loving. However she is acting a bit strange. We have noticed several times two of the three she picks up with her mouth and wants to leave these two under the couch. What would make her want to do this. Her vet said as long as she feeds them just keep an eye on th...

My stud just bred with 2 different females, who are now both bleeding abnormally. Do you think they're ok or might there be some sort of STD?
I have no idea if I am asking this question in the right place or not. I read all of your questions and answers on your website, but my question was not asked or answered.
I have 2 females that my stud has breed recently. One was picked up two weeks ago and her owner informs me she is still bleeding a lot. The other was just picked up today on her 16th day of her cycle and they also called and said that their dog is bleeding a lot.
I take my dog in every couple of months and have him t...

My GSD is blue and I am wondering would it be best for the working lines to not breed him even if he is titled and scores high on his hip x-rays?
I just recently ordered your DVD regarding Building Drive and am can't wait to receive it. I have a 9 month old GSD purchased from a reputable breeder. My original intention was to have a GSD with good hips and sound temperament. The breeder strives for those qualities as well. While vacationing in October, I had the breeder board him, and when I picked him up she said he is a strong candidate for getting a sch title. My question is regarding the fact that he is a Blue. The spectrum of opin...

I have 2 week old litter with diarrhea. Is it was safe to feed a cc or 2 of Pepto or plain Yogurt to them at this age?
Hello Cindy, my name is Elaine, I saw your website online and called. The lady recommended that I refer my questions to you... I hope you don't mind. I have a litter of English Bulldog Puppies that are 2 weeks and 1 day. Every time they eat off of mom they are getting diarrhea. I was wondering if it was safe to feed a cc or 2 of Pepto or plain Yogurt to them at this age. I know in the past I have, but they were a little older. I've never had a litter have it at this age so I wasn't sure and...

One of a litter of 4 GSD pups has developed hypomeylination. Can you tell me where this comes from? Do I fix both parents? Do I euthanize the effected pup?
Hi,
One of a litter of 4 GSD pups (born 10-15-08) has developed this hypomeylination issue. My vet doesn't know much about it. Can you tell me where this comes from? Do I fix both parents and limit or not register the rest of the litter? Do I euthanize the effected pup? He is doing well except for the back end shaking.
Thanks,
Chris

I feed my dogs raw and I have a bitch that is 45 days along. She would happily eat more than I give her. Do I need to feed her more? Will a time come to feed her just as much as she'll eat?
Hi Cindy,
My friend thought you might have some advice for me. I feed my dogs raw and I have a bitch that is 45 days along. Normally, she would eat 1.5 lbs. of meat per day. Right now she is eating 3 lbs. a day with moderate amounts of fish, Salmon oil, and eggs. She gets a vitamin supplement, also. She would happily eat more if it were available. Do I need to feed her more? She goes in for an x-ray and a puppy count this Friday. Will a time come when I want to feed her just as much as sh...

I have a 15 month old dominant dog and I’m running into some problems with her misbehaving and breaking her stays. Correcting her makes her worse. Do you have any advice?
I have bought a lot of your DVDs and soon will be buying (dealing with dominant and aggresive dogs and e-collor training and michael ellis playing tug with your dog). Ed's DVDs have been a big help. I had a question regarding corrections on a dominant dog and if you have time to answer I would appreciate it.

Am I not supposed to get any vaccinations at all or are there some I am supposed to get my dog?
Hi, I have two bulldogs and they have received every vaccination they have ever needed. I bought a malinois a few months ago and have not given him vaccinations, the breeder did but not the last set for the puppies (12 weeks). I like the idea of them not getting them from your vaccinosis article, but I am not quite positive about the process. Am I not supposed to get any vaccinations at all or are there some I am supposed to get him. I also have given my dogs all the natural foods. My mal...

Hi Cindy,
I have a dobe pup 8 months old that has just started her first heat cycle. For the last 2 weeks or so her behavior has completely changed. All she does is sniff the ground and look everywhere but at me. Is this normal for their first cycle or is she going through something else. I have cut her feedin...

I recently purchased your Establishing Pack Structure with The Family Pet DVD. I am a bit confused compared to what I was told by others for Schutzhund Sport Dog. I was told don't control the young dog until it is 1 year old because it will suppress the drive.
When a young dog comes out from the crate, should I play with the dog to imprint the bite work so that when the dog reaches maturity and it is ready for the formal protection training, the performance will be better? However,...
