My dog can't seem to gain and keep weight, she looks like a skeleton. What do you suggest?
Hello,
I will get right to the point since I know you are terrible busy.
I have a female GSD that to us, is awesome. Great temperament and drive and a wonderful mother. Here is my problem, she has since a puppy, had bouts of loose stools. She will go along for a while doing just fine then start in with the runs. Also, she is pretty energetic yes, but I don't think she is overly, so I don't understand why we can not get weight on her.
I have had a full blown blood work up done on her...

I switched him completely to raw about a month ago. My dog is dropping weight. Common sense says he needs more. Do you think this is a growing slower because of better food or do I need to get another job and start feeding him more?
Hi:
I have a one year old great Dane. I switched him completely to raw about a month ago. He is dropping weight, and also pretty short. I am feeding 3 chicken leg quarters and 4 chicken backs and either organ meat, or a can a fish (depending on the day) a day broken in two meals. I have another phone consult with my holistic vet, (there is no vet around here that will agree with raw feeding or no vaccines) She already thinks he's eating too much. Common sense says he needs more, but what...

We have been feeding our 135 lb. Boerboel a raw diet for several months now. Is there a risk associated with feeding raw fish too often? And aside from salmon, are there types of fish that should be avoided? Are farm-raised fish as good as wild-caught?
Cindy,
I'm hoping you have some good advice on this. We have been feeding our 135 lb. Boerboel a raw diet for several months now. I am so glad we switched!! I am a little confused about one thing, though. Everything I have read seems to say or imply that raw fish is ok 1-2 times a week. Is there a risk associated with feeding raw fish more often? And aside from salmon, are there types of fish that should be avoided? Are farm-raised fish as good as wild-caught? Thanks so much for yo...

It seems too complicated to feed a raw diet, I don’t have any free time to spend on this. How much time does it take each day to prepare the food?

I’m switching my 6 month old dog to a raw diet, will she start jumping on the counter when we are fixing meals thinking it is her food?
Hi Cindy,
As always thank you very much in advance for you help and the answer. I am going to switch my 61/2 month old GSD to raw.
I have a couple questions.
She is our house dog and would like to train her as a personal protection dog. I work nights and she spends the day with me and the evening with my wife and children.
How should we direct her during the cooking time of our own meals? She is always following my wife by her side during the house work (cooking, laundry...).

My pup continually has loose, watery stools. At first she had gardia, but no longer tests positive for it. Any advice?
Hi Cindy,
I have a rescue pup, Shepard mix (small) about 8 months old. She seemed to have normal stools when we got her. I first started her out on a grain free natural kibble (call of the wild) and she had loose stools. She had a stool sample done and we found out she had gardia. We treated her with Pancur for 5 days and she had VERY loose watery stools during that time and for a couple more weeks after, we decided to switch her to raw diet cold turkey and the runny poop continued. We had...

I just adopted a new 9 month old GSD, and I wonder if it’s too late to do the groundwork you have on your website?
Hello,
My family and I adopted a 9 month old GSD yesterday, though I didn't find your website until tonight.
About him, I don't think he is a dominate dog. When we first met him he came up with his head down and ears flat to my hand. Since he's been here he does the same thing.
My question is.... is it too late to start ground work/pack structure training if we've pretty much did the opposite of everything that was suggested? I've tried to do basic obedience training before I found ...

My 7 month old dog seems to be testing me a lot lately and I usually show him who's by boss by pinning him to the ground. I need specific advice on how to deal with this.
I have a male Rottweiler who is seven months old. I have started obedience training him since eight weeks old; for the most part he is well behaved and knows the basic commands. He seems to be testing me a lot lately and I usually show him who's by boss by pinning him to the ground by the scruff near is muzzle as well as firm pinching. I usually get a small whine and a submission after some time. I have your video on basic dog training and another on dealing with dominant and aggressive dogs;...

When should we neuter our working dog?
My GSD is approximatly 9 months old. He used to be a little hyper, very active, sometimes aggressive and showed signs of being very protective. Our vet recommended we have him fixed. Everything I read told me the same thing. I thought it was the best thing to do.
Now, I'm not so sure. He seems to have changed. He lets friends of ours put their hands in his mouth, he lets other people correct him, he cowers very easily, like we beat him. I am worried that he will not be protective of my hou...

My brood bitch has nine 3-week old pups and is losing her milk. What should I do?
Java's pups are 3 weeks old and it seems to me that she is losing her milk. Pups are crying. We forced her to lay down a couple times last night but after a couple of minutes she doesn?t want to feed them anymore. What should we do? Ella boiled some milk last night and gave them a little. We don't want to screw up anything. Please help if you can. I thought that I knew more about it than I really do.

I bred my Rot bitch to a purebred Rot male. 2 weeks later I put her out with my GSD and he cross-mated her. Will she have both types of puppies?
My Rottweiler bitch came on heat 24 days ago.
On the 11th and 13th day I mated her to a wonderful pure breed rottweiler male. The problem is that two weeks after, (that is on the 24th day which was last night), I thought that her season was over, and I let her out in with my other dogs.
Unfortunately, my german shepherd cross mated with her. Please help me out. Will my female have puppies for both males or just for the Rottweiler considering that the german shepherd mated her on her 24t...

How do you raise your pups that make them so easy to house train? We have seen several of your dogs and they were all house trained in no time.
Hi Ed,
I talked to Randy and we decided to drop you a line. Both puppies are doing great, already showing great drive and intensity for their work. I have been tracking Willow and she is a natural!! Great ball drive and already out at the end of the leash like a little Tasmanian devil when she watches bite work.
On another note, could you briefly describe how you set up your litters? She was so easy to housebreak and everyone who has gotten a puppy from you has said the same. I am expec...

My dog had puppies about 3 weeks ago and has been nursing them fine until recently. Is there a home remedy I can use to soothe her so she will nurse them again?
My Cairn terrier has just had puppies about 3 weeks ago and up until the past few days she has been nursing them fine. Now she doesn't really want to nurse them and I wonder if it's because her nipples are so scratched up with bumps from them being irritated. Do you know if there is a home-remedy I could do to soothe her that way she will feel better to nurse her puppies?
Thank you

Is it always necessary for the dogs to 'lock up' to have a successful breeding?
Question: I am currently attempting to breed my female lab. We tried one season before but we were unsuccessful. The male is very interested however he appears too big. I have read through the question and answers and I am in the process of using a lubricant and elevating the female just a bit. The male is making contact but the minute he makes contact my female is trying to turn around and nip him. Do the male and female need to lock up in order to have a successful session?
Thank you for...
