We are doing the Pack Structure DVD. Is this going to set them back in any way on the things we have worked with them on? This won't hurt the relationship I have with my dog, will it?

Thank you so much for all your help. I wish I had known about you sooner. We are doing the Pack Structure DVD. We have a 3 year old male and a 5 month old. Is this going to set them back in any way on the things we have worked with them on? Do I need to do this with my 5 month old also? I have started, I hope I have not messed up. How do I know when they are crate submissive? I trust what you say and am doing things the way you say, but it sure is hard not to talk and to love on your dogs....

I want to teach my dog basic obedience. In watching the marker video I was totally impressed but wasn't sure if that is the method you use for basic obedience. What would work the best?

Hello, I'm hoping you can answer what I hope to be a very easy question. I have been searching the internet for weeks trying to find a good training video. I happened on your site and feel that the answer is on here but I am so totally confused at this point from all the information and opinions I have read it is all becoming a jumble. First a little about my dog. She is an 18 month old pit bull we just got about a month ago from a couple who was splitting up and neither one of them cou...

I live in the country and there are many drop-offs. Many counties in this state don't have shelters. What are your thoughts on doing what's right?

Hi Ed, I have great respect for your knowledge on dogs and am learning much from your articles and DVDs. Since I moved to TN to care for my elderly mother 3 years ago, I have acquired over 40 drop-off dogs and various other animals. We live in the country and needless to say there are many drop-offs (abandoned, abused and/or starved) in this economically depressed area. Many of the counties here have no shelters, including this one. And the lack of education, exposure and wi...

We rescued a Shepherd a year ago and are now having aggression issues. We don't want to return him to the shelter. Can you help us?

I have searched several forums to find some info on aggression issues in shelter dogs and haven't found anything specific to a rescue dog. We rescued a Sheppard last May and he has aggression issues with my 14 yr old daughter. We are not sure why this is happening only with her, we also have a 12 yr old son whom he has no problem with. He has bitten her about 4 times up to now and he strikes without provocation. We don't have much history on this dog as he has been in & out of shelter...

My husband and I adopted a rescue dog last year. He seems to think he owns the neighborhood and is trying to assert his dominance over all other dogs. Why doesn't he do it to all dogs?

Hello, I've read your information on aggressive dogs, but I didn't find anything that quite matched my situation, so I thought I'd see if you could give me some advice. My husband and I adopted a rescue dog last year. The dog is neutered, about two years old now and weighs 40 pounds. Over the past year, our dog (a mix, the vet thinks he could possibly be a shepherd/beagle) has taken an obedience class and had to stay at a kennel for a weekend when we were out of town, and in...

Why is it important for the dog to carry the sleeve?

Mr Frawley, Why is it important for the dog to carry the sleeve? If he realizes that by dropping it he can re-initiate his tug-of-war with the helper, isn't that a good thing? Thanks for the help. Mark

I want to train my 8 month old Rott in Schutzhund. Can I do this with your DVD's? If so, what ones do you recommend?

Hi, My name is Chuck. I have a 8 month old Rott. I was looking into having her and me trained for the sport of Schutzhund. I have taken her to a trainer. He says she would do good and should handle the training. I just don't feel he's a good trainer. With that said, I have two questions. First, can I train her using the DVDs? Now to the a Problem I am having. I have two Toy poodles and I can not keep Treasure from going for them. She's not being mean just wants to pla...

Can you tell me why a GSD puppy with SCH bloodlines would not be fit to compete in Mondio-ring and if what this lady says is true?

Hello Ed or Cindy, I have a question about MONDIORING vs. SCH. I wanted to learn more about Mondio-ring so I contacted someone from a Mondioring Club to ask about training. She asked me about the sire and dam for the pup I was thinking about purchasing and I told her SCH III (Sire) and SchH BH, PPD (Dam). The DAM is Isis Vom Leerburg. She told me that pups from this type of bloodline are not working dogs, they are show dogs, or dogs that are bred to look pretty and are not a...

My SchH 1 GSD whines during the long down and this is carrying over into her heeling. Do you have any ideas?

Dear Cindy I have a 3 year old GS female SChH 1 that leaks/whines during obedience during the long down. She will not move but will cause a commotion. I have tried nylon chocker, lifting up until she is quiet. I've also tried food when she is quiet but that does not last long. As soon as I walk away, she will start back up. The leaking carries over into healing. Any thought that might help my girl, I will be happy to call you? Thank You Dan

My 4 year old dog seems to have good prey drive. I would like to train it to track. Should I get involved with local obedience clubs to help me?

Hi Ed, Hope all is well in your New Year. First of all, I'm happy to see you have quite a few selections out on DVD . Rats, to bad I hadn't checked before XMAS but my birthday is in March, I'll start dropping the hints and if that doesn't work I'll just drop my own credit card. Ah, one of the perks of age, independent spending. Next, my dog is best described as a pet. A great one at that, very middle of the road. He is neither submissive or dominant, he's not hard or soft, doesn't displ...

My Search & Rescue dog has been skunked twice now, will she ever learn to avoid these critters?

Cindy, I have an operational SAR air scent golden retriever in the state of Virginia. I spent hours in the wilderness both training and on SAR missions. My dog has been skunked twice in her life so far. The first time was at 6 months and most recently at 4 years of age. I'm always prepared and have the necessary recipe on hand to deal with removing the skunk oil and odor. My question is: Will she ever learn to avoid these critters? She lives with three cats at home and I oft...

I have a very anxious WGSD that I would like to train as a service dog. I'm not sure if he can be a service dog away from hom ethough. Any ideas?

Hello, I have a WGSD that I adopted from the shelter. (I was there the day he came in)Since he was a puppy he was frightened in new situations and very anxious. He is a great house protector. But when I take him to stressful places ex. the shelter when I volunteer, or any place that's not at home. He ranges from being very anxious at the shelter and fails to listen, to sometimes frightened & tries to get away from the circumstances he is in. I know he can overcome this because he h...

Your video shows young dogs tracking with the wind at their back. Most trainers I have talked to track to the wind. Can you tell me why it should be done your way?

I have just recently purchased your RCMP Tracking Video. I have been with other officers who have tracking dogs, and have worked one myself. My questions are, while I looked at your video, for the first week of tracking, you showed what I believed to be your child or a child giving the dog hot dogs, but yet one of your helpers was using a bite rag or burlap sack on another occasion. Which should you start with? I believe we are trying to get the dog to track during prey drive, whic...

A local fire department bought a young dog for S&R. It’s very fearful around strangers. Do you think they made a mistake?

The Metro fire dept. in Nash, TN has recently bought a high dollar pup for my neighbor, whom is a fireman, to perform search and rescue and I assume accelerant detection. I am no expert, but I have been burned by a "master military dog trainer." The pup came from a breeder someplace in TN, and it is a decent looking all black male named Smokey. I don't think the dog will be successful. At two months old, it doesn't like people. It barks at everything and will not approach a non-threatenin...

What is your opinion on using food to train a sport tracking dog?

Ed, I am interested in your video, "Training Competition Tracking," but I have a few questions for you. I've read most of your articles on tracking and find the Drive Tracking method quite interesting. I haven't begun training my puppy in tracking yet because I just am not comfortable with what I've been told to do. My puppy is almost 6 months and is in Schutzhund training and I was told to lay a track using a piece of food on every single footstep. Later, corners are taught by putting ...
