I have a 15 month old dominant dog and I’m running into some problems with her misbehaving and breaking her stays. Correcting her makes her worse. Do you have any advice?
I have bought a lot of your DVDs and soon will be buying (dealing with dominant and aggresive dogs and e-collor training and michael ellis playing tug with your dog). Ed's DVDs have been a big help. I had a question regarding corrections on a dominant dog and if you have time to answer I would appreciate it.
I have a dominant 15 month female GSD who I have been useing mostly positive training methods such as marker training. I have been slowly adding distractions and corrections to her tr...

Am I not supposed to get any vaccinations at all or are there some I am supposed to get my dog?
Hi, I have two bulldogs and they have received every vaccination they have ever needed. I bought a malinois a few months ago and have not given him vaccinations, the breeder did but not the last set for the puppies (12 weeks). I like the idea of them not getting them from your vaccinosis article, but I am not quite positive about the process. Am I not supposed to get any vaccinations at all or are there some I am supposed to get him. I also have given my dogs all the natural foods. My mal...

My puppy has hair loss that started after her vaccines. I think her immune system must have been compromised. What can I give her to build up her immune system?
Hi Cindy,
I have purchased a packaged training video from your company and would only trust you folks for advice on hair loss. We have a 4 month old blue APBT that is well on her way in training. We follow everything your vids. say to do and its WORKING out great!!! But, we have a problem with her patches of hair loss around the right eye, chest and front legs and sides. We have tried borax and now Nu Stock. It seemed to be working a little with the Nu Stock. The hair looks like it...

I have a dobe pup that has just started her first heat cycle. All she does is sniff the ground and look everywhere but at me. Is this normal for their first cycle?
Hi Cindy,
I have a dobe pup 8 months old that has just started her first heat cycle. For the last 2 weeks or so her behavior has completely changed. I have been working on attention and the beginning phases of heeling and she was doing great. Now and for the past 2 or 3 weeks its like I've never taken her out of the yard. All she does is sniff the ground and look everywhere but at me. Is this normal for their first cycle or is she going through something else. I have cut her feedin...

I am a bit confused compared to what I was told by others for Schutzhund Sport Dog. I was told don't control the young dog until it is 1 year old because it will suppress the drive.
I recently purchased your Establishing Pack Structure with The Family Pet DVD. I am a bit confused compared to what I was told by others for Schutzhund Sport Dog. I was told don't control the young dog until it is 1 year old because it will suppress the drive.
When a young dog comes out from the crate, should I play with the dog to imprint the bite work so that when the dog reaches maturity and it is ready for the formal protection training, the performance will be better? However,...

My Lab/GSD is very dependent and has cost me a lot of money. Should I try medication?
I read your pages about dealing with an aggressive dog and what to ask you about my situation.
I have a three year old Lab/German Shepherd mix dog. She is a very loving dog to my roommate and me. She does a have very bad dependency problem which has cost me a lot of money. Most of the time when I leave her, she tries to break out of the house. She will chew on the fence, chew on the front door or anything else that could possible get her out. I have tried giving her a lot of exerci...

We've tried everything to help our dog with separation anxiety, but nothing helps. Do you have any suggestions?
I have a 1 year old Springer spaniel with severe separation anxiety.
Every time he is put in his kennel he will defecate, urinate, hyper-salivate (puddles of saliva), howl and bark (non-stop) and he digs at the cage like he is trying to escape (he has destroyed a metal cage).
We always come home to a poopy wet mess. He has never liked being in the kennel, even as a new pup; but has always stayed in it when we are gone.
We have tried the kennel in every room in the hou...

I have a 3 year old dog who we adopted from a friend because he was fighting with his sister so much. We have been having some issues with him. Please help.
Hi There,
I have a wonderful 3 year old dog who we adopted from a friend because he was fighting with his sister so much. (They were both adopted from a shelter). When he first came to our home, he responded with growling and barking at anyone who approached us or came to the house. Within a week we had him in training and things improved dramatically. He still gets "cranky" when a loose dog approaches me on a walk but I am able to deal with it and he always remains in his space. I...

My dog has hip dysplasia and he gets very upset when I drop him off for his physical therapy at the university. He settles down as soon as I’m out of sight. Is this separation anxiety?
Hi Cindy
I have a 2 year old neutered male German Shepherd who is very friendly to people and other dogs (we won't talk about cats rabbits, and squirrels at this point) I work full time - so I leave him at home for several hours a day - so it's not like he is used to being with me all the time. I also have a 8-year old neutered male Pembroke Welsh Corgi who lives in the house too - but they are separated when I leave. They get along great - it's just that sometimes Ben (my shephe...

My Dog Argentino is female dog aggressive. Is there anything that I can do to help change this?
I recently adopted a 9mo. old female Dogo Argentino. Sol was an owner surrender, the reason for this is complicated but I'll try to explain as briefly as possible. Sol's former owner runs a dog rescue agency in West Va. In addition to this the woman has four small children and a few animals (cats and dogs) that she keeps as pets obviously over-extended! One of her pets was a Dogo that she adopted. She loved the breed so much that she thought it would be a good idea to breed them. Thank ...

Our rescue dog has killed my other dog and one of my goats. I think that I either need to find her a new home or put her to sleep. What are your thought?
I have a Boxer that I rescued. The previous owner was terminally ill and had to give her up. Or that was what I was told. She seemed to be fine with all the other animals and then she got into a fight with one of my older dogs and that dog died from it. Since then she has killed one of my baby goats and attacked an adult goat through the fence. I have been watching very closely and yesterday I saw him grab the male goat by the face and would not let go until I hit her with a stick. My daug...

My dog does seem to have a fairly strong prey drive, and I wonder if this is a negative behavior that needs to be corrected (like aggression).
Hi Cindy/Ed,
First of all, let me say that your products are fantastic. We have purchased your quick release prong collar, the dominant dog collar, and three videos (establishing pack structure, dealing with dominant and aggressive dogs, and Basic Dog Obedience), and have read many of your e-articles on your web site. Zippy (a 12 1/2 pound neutered male Havanese) is now almost 11 months old now and is getting better and better with each passing day. We find your no-nonsense approach works....

We are doing the Pack Structure DVD. Is this going to set them back in any way on the things we have worked with them on? This won't hurt the relationship I have with my dog, will it?
Thank you so much for all your help. I wish I had known about you sooner.
We are doing the Pack Structure DVD. We have a 3 year old male and a 5 month old. Is this going to set them back in any way on the things we have worked with them on? Do I need to do this with my 5 month old also? I have started, I hope I have not messed up. How do I know when they are crate submissive? I trust what you say and am doing things the way you say, but it sure is hard not to talk and to love on your dogs....

My dog seems to be becoming dominant and aggressive. I know now I've done a lot of things wrong. What should I do?
I've spent the last several hours reviewing your web site and the articles you've posted. Before I make any more mistakes with my dog I have specific issues I was hoping you might give some direction including the videos you recommend. After reading your articles I realize the mistakes I've made and that I can't take them back - all I can do is go from here, hopefully I can stop this and it's not too late.

I want to teach my dog basic obedience. In watching the marker video I was totally impressed but wasn't sure if that is the method you use for basic obedience. What would work the best?
Hello,
I'm hoping you can answer what I hope to be a very easy question. I have been searching the internet for weeks trying to find a good training video. I happened on your site and feel that the answer is on here but I am so totally confused at this point from all the information and opinions I have read it is all becoming a jumble.

I live in the country and there are many drop-offs. Many counties in this state don't have shelters. What are your thoughts on doing what's right?
Hi Ed,
I have great respect for your knowledge on dogs and am learning much from your articles and DVDs.
Since I moved to TN to care for my elderly mother 3 years ago, I have acquired over 40 drop-off dogs and various other animals. We live in the country and needless to say there are many drop-offs (abandoned, abused and/or starved) in this economically depressed area. Many of the counties here have no shelters, including this one. And the lack of education, exposure and wi...

We rescued a Shepherd a year ago and are now having aggression issues. We don't want to return him to the shelter. Can you help us?
I have searched several forums to find some info on aggression issues in shelter dogs and haven't found anything specific to a rescue dog. We rescued a Sheppard last May and he has aggression issues with my 14 yr old daughter. We are not sure why this is happening only with her, we also have a 12 yr old son whom he has no problem with. He has bitten her about 4 times up to now and he strikes without provocation. We don't have much history on this dog as he has been in & out of shelter...

My husband and I adopted a rescue dog last year. He seems to think he owns the neighborhood and is trying to assert his dominance over all other dogs. Why doesn't he do it to all dogs?
Hello,
I've read your information on aggressive dogs, but I didn't find anything that quite matched my situation, so I thought I'd see if you could give me some advice.
My husband and I adopted a rescue dog last year. The dog is neutered, about two years old now and weighs 40 pounds. Over the past year, our dog (a mix, the vet thinks he could possibly be a shepherd/beagle) has taken an obedience class and had to stay at a kennel for a weekend when we were out of town, and in...
