I have 3 small children and would like to add a puppy. Some people have been telling me to wait until the little one is at least 3. What input do you have?

Been a long time fan of your kennel and training methods. Have a question that I would like your expert opinion on. My wife and I have three small children 5,3,1 and would like to add a puppy to this mix? I have been getting mixed reviews about having a dog with three small kids and that I should wait till the little one is at least 3? My question too you is have you sold dogs in the past to people in my situation and how did it work out. We have narrowed down the search to with a GS...

I have a 10 month old Rot that always grabs the leash and acts threatening when I try to stop it. What should I do?

We have a male Rott that is ten months old, he has one annoying habit. When on the leash he will periodically bite at the leash and we have tried everything to try to break this habit, he seems to do it to get something going and then he gets feisty and argumentative. If you try to use force, it gets worse. The Alpha roll does not seem to get it. He is better with my wife, he really tries to get something going with me. Looking for help, we would like to break him from this and we do not ...

When my 4 month old GSD sees other dogs, his hair stands up, he barks low, and sways his tail back and forth. Is this normal?

When we approach people and especially other dogs on our walks around the street or in the local pet store and in puppy kindergarten class his hair stands up, he barks low and sways his tail slowly back and forth. Or it stays partially limp, not stiff nor tucked. When he's in actual contact with them, he's fine. Perhaps a bit shy, but not scared. This is sending me mixed signals. Is he just happily greeting, feeling threatened, or being protective.

My dog is obedience trained. His problem is that he knows when the leash or long line are on and will mind, but gets stubborn when the leash is off.

I have heard mention correcting a dog many times in your articles. My question is what would a level 10 correction look like compared to a lower level correction? My dog is almost eighteen months old and grabbing by the back of the neck does not have the same affect as it did when he was a puppy. Most of the time he minds, but occasional he will be a knuckle head. He knows basic obedience and most of the time he will respond to me saying "no." Another problem that I have is that he knows when...

What is your opinion of these new Sonic Collars that use sound and not electricity to train a dog?

Hello Mr. Frawley, I wanted to know what your opinion on the product below was, is it worth buying. The new Pro Trainer Plus is an electronic pet training aid that uses sound, not shock, to teach your dog or cat to behave. The Pro Trainer Plus gives you four different training tones. Three obedience tones are provided to teach your pet specific behaviors such as Sit, Come, Heel, etc. A rapidly pulsating, irritating "NO!" tone is provided to deter barking, jumping, digging an...

I started training my 5 month old pup using food. I think that may have been the wrong thing to do. Am I right?

I am having some problems with my GSD. He's five months old and showing almost every sign of aggression and dominance listed on your site. Even as I am typing this he is giving my husband a hard time(growling and barking because he has been forced into a down position and wants to get up). I made the HUGE mistake of buying him from a woman advertising puppies in our local paper ....I didn't know I was making a mistake then...but I have certainly learned a lesson. This may seem leng...

We have taken our 5-month old dog to a very reputable dog trainer. The problem is he is getting scabs on his neck from the corrections. What can we do?

I was wondering if you could help me. I am having my dog trained by a very reputable trainer in my area. The pup is 5 months old and when the trainer works with the dog he does everything. When we work him we are causing marks on his neck. Some are scabbed over. It seems like we are not having great success with using corrections on this dog. We are using a choke collar and our trainer says that we should give him a good correction instead of many little ones. We are afraid to hurt him an...

My dog just had puppies and she isn't eating. What would you suggest?

As a Great Dane breeder, I've been using your formula for years and we love it. On Tuesday 05/03/2011, Zonie gave us 8 beautiful babies. She is a first time mom and is doing very good with her babies. The problem is that she's not eating much at all. She is also very picky with what she eats. We had her x-rayed on 05/03/2011 to make sure she was finished. I also had her calcium check and she was normal. On Tuesday 05/10/2011 I did a CBC/Chem7 and an ultrasound. Again everything is normal. No ...

I noticed that the Marker DVD is similar to Balabanov's training style. Will they work together if I mix and match different parts ot the training methods?

I'm new to all of these different training styles and to dog training in general. Kind of confusing actually with everything out there now.... Leerburg, Balabanov, Ellis, Dildei, etc. Can your training methods work with Balabanov's methods? Am I just keying in on the overall concept and not the specifics of how to use markers for your training methods ...

I want to change my marker from a click to the word YES, how do I do that?

Hi Cindy, My questions is, what if I've been using the clicking sound with my mouth as the marker, but want to change it to "yes." What is the best way to go about it or should I just stay with the clicking sound. It's that I feel that when we're at places where I need to get her focused, I want to call her in some way to get her attention. What do you suggest? Thank you in advance. Rob

My young dog is trying to bite me if I block her from having something that she wants. I don’t use a long line anymore because she gets tangled in it, what should I do?

Dear Cindy, I have a 10 month old female GSD. We have the use of our neighbors acre size fenced yard and I take my dog over every day to let her run and exercise her. Today, she was getting into something I didn't want her messing with and when I tried to block her getting to what she wanted, she lunged at me a few times trying to bite. I literally had to kick her back to keep her from biting at me. I have seen the pack structure DVD and she has been through obedience training si...

Should I be adding more supplements to my dog's diet?

Hi Cindy, I wanted to thank you for all the help on starting with the new raw diet. Caddies itching has reduced by 60% (still some chewing and scratching but not like before) and this is just the first 3 weeks. She has gone from being lethargic to full of energy and personality. When I brought her home (she was a rescue) all she did was sleep and mope around, now it's like someone changed dogs on me and gave me this loving happy active dog. Oh how I love her even more now. I...

I have just about every one of your videos on this topic, and I think I know the right answer, be the reason I'm asking you is that there's a l...

My young dog is very focused on the sleeve, even when it’s on the ground. He will go for the sleeve even when I have given him corrections. What can I do?

Hi Cindy, I have a 17 month old GSD who I have had since he was 7 weeks old. I have trained him in protection work as well as obedience and agility. In obedience and agility he is doing fine but in protection I have huge control problems. He is extremely highly driven in the presence of a sleeve, even when the sleeve is not on a helpers arm. I have been doing a lot of control exercises in the presence of the sleeve but not rewarding with the sleeve, using a ball as the re...

I have two female Standard Poodles, and am thinking of introducing a new male into our home. My fear is that three might be too much to manage. Is it TOO much work?

Hello, I've been reading your articles on your website about adding a new dog to your home, but I'm still having trouble. I have two female Standard Poodles, and am thinking of introducing a new male standard into our home. My girls are 6 and 3, the new dog is about 7 months. My eldest dog, Tasha, is sweet, even-tempered... we say the younger one, Maya is a toddler... full of mischief, into everything, but so, so loving and fun! They get along sooo well... they are actually ...
